Le Spectre de Boko Haram - Cyrielle Raingou

The Far North Region of Cameroon, bordering Nigeria, lives under military protection, threatened by murderous terrorist incursions. In the village of Kolofata, Mohamed, Ibrahim and Falta — indirect victims of Boko Haram — attempt to create a new future for themselves. Cyrielle Raingou’s camera captures the unfailing vitality of these children as they go to school and look after their herds.
Screenwriter and filmmaker Cyrielle Raingou (Cameroon) has a Master’s degree in law and documentary filmmaking. She uses legends, metaphors and symbolism to tell stories about cultural identities in Africa, their promotion on an international scale and the economic interest it raises. After two short movies that toured the world, Le Spectre de Boko Haram is her first feature documentary.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with the film director, moderated by Lyse Ishimwe (Recognition’s founder and curator).

La région de l'Extrême-Nord du Cameroun, qui borde le Nigeria, vit sous protection militaire en raison des incursions terroristes meurtrières qui la menacent. Dans le village de Kolofata, Mohamed, Ibrahim et Falta, tous trois victimes indirectes de Boko Haram, tentent de se créer un nouvel avenir. La caméra de Cyrielle Raingou capte la vitalité indéfectible de ces enfants qui vont à l'école et s'occupent de leurs troupeaux.
La scénariste et réalisatrice Cyrielle Raingou (Cameroun) est titulaire d'une maîtrise en droit et d’une maîtrise en réalisation de films documentaires. Elle utilise des légendes, des métaphores et des symboles pour raconter des histoires sur les identités culturelles en Afrique, assurer leur promotion à l'échelle internationale et susciter un intérêt économique. Après deux courts métrages qui ont fait le tour du monde, Le Spectre de Boko Haram est son premier long métrage documentaire.
La projection sera suivie d'un échange avec la réalisatrice, animé par Lyse Ishimwe (fondatrice et curatrice de Recognition).

Het uiterste noorden van Kameroen, aan de grens met Nigeria, staat onder militaire bescherming, aangezien er voortdurend de dreiging van moorddadige terroristische invallen heerst. In het dorp Kolofata proberen Mohamed, Ibrahim en Falta – indirecte slachtoffers van Boko Haram – een nieuwe toekomst op te bouwen. De camera van Cyrielle Raingou legt de grenzeloze levenslust van deze kinderen vast terwijl ze naar school gaan en voor hun kuddes zorgen.
Scenarist en cineast Cyrielle Raingou (Kameroen) studeerde rechten en heeft een diploma van documentairemaker op zak. Aan de hand van legendes, metaforen en symboliek vertelt ze verhalen over culturele identiteiten in Afrika, hoe die worden gepromoot op het internationale toneel en welke economische belangen daarbij horen. Na twee kortfilms die de hele wereld rondgingen, is Le Spectre de Boko Haram haar eerste lange documentaire.
Na de vertoning volgt een gesprek met de filmregisseur, gemodereerd door Lyse Ishimwe (oprichter en curator van Recognition).
