Triple bill: Dietrichs - Mertens & Steenkiste - Mascletá

Concert in collaboration with Oorstof / SoundInMotion vzw.This will be the first Belgian concert by the stunning Dietrichs, the noise duo made up of Borbetomagus-saxophonist Don Dietrich and daughter Camille on cello.Dietrichs: Don Dietrich & Camille Dietrich (US)Legendary saxophonist Don Dietrich and his daughter, cellist Camille Dietrich, join forces in Dietrichs, a duo that music critic Byron Coley describes as “pure screaming sonic splendour”. For more than four decades, Don has been the driving force behind Borbetomagus, known for its explosive style and “relentless wall of sound”.Camille’s raw energy combines classically trained precision with the instinctive flair of someone who has grown up with aggressive improvisation. Together they inundate their audience with sound and leave a lasting impression, long after the last note has died away.Dietrichs began their journey in 2017 with a debut album on Pica Disk Records, followed by a series of shows and a spot on the ‘Best Live concerts of 2018’ chart of Jazz Right Now. In 2021, the duo joined Feeding Tube Records’ Quarantunes Series, subsequently releasing their recording through that same label.Their livestream was named in Art Forum Magazine’s ‘Alan Licht’s Best Music of 2021’. Dietrichs released their highly acclaimed third album Catch the Leaves in 2023 via Relative Pitch Records, followed by a reissue on vinyl in 2024 via Feeding Tube Records.Mertens & Steenkiste (BE)Mertens & Steenkiste is the exciting new project of Jef Mertens and Glen Steenkiste. Following a few previous collaborations, the duo now embraces the Pythagorean (harmonic) harp and Taishogoto (Japanese snared instrument based upon the Indian bulbul tarang). A new release from this remarkable twosome is already in the making.Glen Steenkiste, also known as Hellvete, gained recognition as a member of the drone-folk collective Silvester Anfang. Exploring early minimalist music and traditional folk, he creates compelling soundscapes with harmonium, shruti box and now also Pythagorean harp. His music effortlessly dissolves the boundaries of time and space.Jef Mertens has been exploring the experimental music- and film scene in Belgium and beyond for almost two decades. He has made documentaries (Dronevolk, Borbetomagus, Sonic Youth), ran the now defunct Dadaist Tapes label and released his solo album No Mathematics on KRAAK/Feeding Tube. Inspired by artists like Bill Nace, Jef moved on to the Taishogoto.
