Erich Heckel in Flanders: German expressionism at the MSK
Description
During World War I, Erich Heckel, one of the main figures of German Expressionism and a co-founder of the artists' association Brücke, worked as a nurse for the Red Cross in Roeselare, Ostend and Ghent. He demonstrated his fascination for Flemish landscapes and cities in the form of expressive works of art. His works are romantic and expressive, spiritual and tangible, and above all, hopeful.
This exhibition highlights a lesser-known but particularly fascinating period of this leading artist's career.
