David Décamp - 'Un Pas de côté'

Du 18 novembre 2021 au 8 janvier 2022, la Galerie La Forest Divonne présente une exposition personnelle du sculpteur David Décamp, intitulée « Un Pas de côté ».Artiste autodidacte à l’humour noir, proche de l’art Brut, David Décamp a commencé sa vie comme bûcheron-élagueur dans les forêts du Jura, avant de développer sa pratique artistique. Ses œuvres sont ancrées dans cet environnement forestier dont elles tirent leurs matériaux (comme le bois et l’os) et leurs formes, principalement celles des arbres et des branches, mais aussi des figures de faunes, ou d’animaux qui la peuplent : cerfs, chevreuils, oiseaux… Partout, pourtant, c’est l’homme que Décamp convoque, dans sa nature originelle, intégrée à son environnement. Une intégration dont il déplore qu’elle soit rompue, et dont il cherche la mémoire.Les sculptures s’articuleront autour de l’œuvre énigmatique Le Bûcher est servi : mise en scène surréaliste d’une mort de la Nature, symbolisée par les cornes d’un cerf. Le cercueil est entouré de troncs d’arbres gainés de plomb, dont Décamp à retravaillé les lignes de telle sorte qu’ils évoquent des torses d’hommes, comme autant de porteurs funéraires. Ailleurs, Décamp décline ses matériaux, et égraine son alerte à l’homme moderne trop oublieux de ses racines. Partout le propos de l’artiste est pondéré par son regard humoristique sur les choses : ce Pas de côté, titre de l’exposition, que Décamp nous invite à prendre, pour nous retrouver et pour regarder le monde différemment. On citera Circuit de mes os usés, parcours de plomberie dont la forme stylisée évoque un corps, non sans parenté avec le Maneken Pis.L’œuvre de Décamp est engagée et forte, porteuse d’un message d’alerte, sans jamais laisser de côté la puissance poétique de l’art, qui s’exprime dans l’originalité de ses sculptures et dans le raffinement de ses réalisations.

Van 18 november 2021 tot 8 januari 2022 stelt Galerie La Forest Divonne de solotentoonstelling “Un Pas de côté” voor van beeldhouwer David Décamp.David Décamp is een autodidactisch kunstenaar die van zwarte humor houdt en dicht aanleunt bij de art brut. Hij begon zijn leven als houthakker/boomsnoeier in de bossen van de Jura voor hij zijn artistieke carrière uitbouwde. Zijn werk is verankerd in de bossen waaruit hij zijn materialen (zoals hout en been) en vormen put, vooral bomen en takken, maar ook figuren uit de fauna, of dieren die er leven: herten, reeën, vogels ... Overal echter is het de mens die, in zijn oorspronkelijke natuur, in harmonie met zijn omgeving op de voorgrond treedt. Een harmonie waarvan Décamp betreurt dat ze verbroken is, en waarvan hij de herinnering opzoekt.De sculpturen zijn gemaakt rond het raadselachtige oeuvre Le Bûcher est servi, een surrealistische enscenering van de dood van de Natuur, die gesymboliseerd wordt door het gewei van een hert. De kist wordt omgeven door met lood beklede boomstammen, waarvan Décamp de lijnen zodanig heeft uitwerkt dat ze de kijker doen denken aan torso's van mannen, zoals mannen die een kist dragen. Elders werkt Décamp zijn materiaal verder uit en splitst hij zijn waarschuwing toe op de moderne mens die zijn roots al te vaak vergeet. Overal wordt het discours van de kunstenaar in balans gehouden door zijn humoristische blik op de dingen: deze Pas de côté (stap opzij), de titel van de tentoonstelling, die Décamp ons uitnodigt te nemen, om onszelf terug te vinden en de wereld anders te bekijken. Er is ook het Circuit de mes os usés, een parcours van leidingen waarvan de gestileerde vorm doet denken aan Manneken Pis. David Décamp is in de eerste plaats een dichter wiens grote gevoeligheid tot uiting komt in de verfijndheid van zijn materialen en creaties. Meer bepaald in deze indrukwekkende serie bas-reliëfs, verstrengelde takken en vogels tegen de achtergrond waaruit het silhouet afsteekt van een zwevende Christus die het Passieverhaal belichaamt van de moderne mens in verhouding tot het bedreigde milieu.Het werk van Décamp is geëngageerd en sterk. Het draagt een boodschap van waarschuwing uit, zonder ooit de poëtische kracht van de kunst aan de kant te duwen, die tot uiting komt in de originaliteit van zijn beelden en de finesse van zijn creaties.

From November 18, 2021 to January 8, 2022, the Galerie La Forest Divonne presents a solo exhibition of the sculptor David Décamp, entitled “Un Pas de côté”.A self-taught artist with a dark sense of humor, close to the art Brut, David Décamp began his life as a lumberjack in the forests of the Jura, before developing his artistic practice. His works are anchored in this forest environment from which they draw their materials (such as wood and bone) and their forms, mainly those of trees and branches, but also the figures of fauna, or animals that populate it: deer, roe deer, birds… Everywhere, however, it is man that Décamp summons, in his original nature, integrated into his environment. An integration which he deplores being broken, and of which he seeks the memory.The sculptures will be articulated around the enigmatic work Le Bûcher est servi (The pyre is served): a surrealist staging of the death of Nature, symbolized by the horns of a stag. The coffin is surrounded by tree trunks sheathed in lead, whose lines Décamp has reworked in such a way that they evoke the torsos of men, like so many funeral bearers. Elsewhere, Décamp declines his materials, and spells out his warning to modern man who is too forgetful of his roots. Everywhere the artist’s statement is balanced by his humorous look at things: Un Pas de côté, the title of the exhibition, that Décamp invites us to take, to find ourselves and to look at the world differently. One can cite Circuit de mes os usés, a plumbing course whose stylized form evokes a body, not without kinship with the Maneken Pis.Décamp’s work is committed and strong, carrying a message of warning, without ever leaving aside the poetic power of art, which is expressed in the originality of his sculptures and in the refinement of his creations.
