Le temps d'une soirée plongez-vous au coeur de la musique AFRO et de sa culture au travers de sa musique. Un voyage qui vous fera passer par les différents courants musicaux qui la représente, allant de l'AFROBEAT à l'AFRO HOUSE en passant par la DANCEHALL, le KUDURO, l’AMAPIANO, le HIP-HOP ou encore la KIZOMBA. A sparkling cultural popular festival with numerous performances of various national and international artists: a unique event in Europe, thanks to the varied and free offer of (music) performances, (street)theatre, exhibitions, animation for children, fairs, parades and so much more! The Ghent Festivities are among the biggest popular festivals in Europe and have been recognised as Flemish intangible heritage. You can attend concerts and performances all across town. You won’t go hungry or thirsty thanks to the many food and drink stalls. Over the course of ten days, thousands of people come to Ghent. Some of the crowd pullers include the Bal 1900 dance party, the International Puppet Buskers Festival, the International Street Theatre Festival, Baudelopark… Go to the website to view the full programme. [https://gentsefeesten.stad.gent/en] A lot of squares, streets and parks in the Ghent city centre host a variety of performances during the Ghent Festivities. Well-known national artists as well as simple street performers, everyone gets a chance to perform their act. These locations are the places to be if you want to breathe in the atmosphere of the Ghent Festivities.  You can only go up the tower of St Bavo’s Cathedral during the Ghent Festivities. Negotiate the stairs and enjoy the magnificent view of this unique party for the people in the heart of Ghent. At other times of the year, you can enjoy the most beautiful view of Ghent from directly beneath the golden dragon, Ghent’s mascot, on the Belfry tower  [https://visit.gent.be/en/see-do/ghent-belfry-world-heritage]opposite. From there you can continue exploring the heart of Ghent. Anything goes. Everything comes to an end, and then it’s clean-up time. Gazon: Summer bar in the beautiful private gardens of the Kristallijn ice rink

Gazon is a summer bar in the beautiful garden of the Kristallijn ice rink in Ghent. Sink down into the pillows with a cocktail, find peace and quiet under the trees or have a drink near the pond. Sun lovers can enjoy the sunshine in one of the beach chairs. Be sure to bring the kids someday. There is a large playground with a bouncy castle. Grown-ups can participate in numerous activities as well: a Kubb game, pétanque and cards. You can enjoy street food, sharing dishes and classic dishes, all prepared in the open kitchen. Vegans and people with allergies will also definitely find something to their liking. Tip: twice a month, Gazon opens its doors on Sunday for a delicious buffet-style brunch accompanied by (live) music. Tijdens Down To Earth komen wetenschappelijke verhalen, straattheater, Silent Disco, planetariumvoorstellingen, de historie van Sonnenborgh en verassende cocktails samen. Ontdek, experimenteer en dans tijdens dit gloednieuwe zomerevenement van Sonnenborgh. Wandel door de tuin waar de historie van Sonnenborgh tot leven komt, laat je horizon verbreden door Sabine Winters, dans tot je voeten pijn doen, bewonder de sterren en planeten door een van de grote kijkers van Sonnenborgh of vanaf het dak met uitzicht over de singel, wordt verrast door straattheater en prachtige kunst, maak een reis door de ruimte in het planetarium en geniet van exclusieve cocktails, speciaal ontworpen voor Sonnenborgh. Duik in een intieme festivalwereld – laat je zintuigen ontwaken en ontdek Sonnenborgh, de aarde en het hele universum als nooit tevoren. Sprekers Op elke Down to Earth avond ontvangt Sonnenborgh een inspirerende spreker: 20 juli: Marjolijn van Heemstra Dichter, schrijver, theatermaker, journalist en podcastmaker met een achtergrond in godsdienstwetenschappen. 3 augustus: Lucas Ellerbroek Sterrenkundige en schrijver die na een master theoretische natuurkunde promoveerde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam op het ontstaan van sterren en planeten. 17 & 31 augustus: Sabine Winters Wetenschapsfilosoof, docent en onderzoeker met een sterke focus op de filosofie van de ruimte. (Nb.: 31 augustus 2024 is een prikkelarme editie)

In de broeiende underground van Utrecht gaat het al een tijdje rond: egg punk is booming. Het is lo-fi, het is snel, het is energiek en vooral niet te missen. Daarom is het de hoogste tijd dat de bands Autobahns, WWW en Spurn voor een avond bovengronds verschijnen, om met weirde synths, snelle drumcomputers en luide gitaren ACU op haar grondvesten te laten trillen.

Tijdens de Dabke Night worden Arabische tradities, nieuwe gewoontes, culturen en stijlen gemixt en op het podium en de dansvloer gebracht. Dabke is de meest populaire dans in het Midden-Oosten. Maar het is meer dan een dans, het is een uiting van identiteit, trots en community. Bij Dabke maakt het niet uit waar je vandaan komt, of je beginner bent of een geoefende danser, iedereen is welkom om aan te sluiten in de dabke cirkel. Elke Dabke Night begint met een Dabke workshop voor beginners. Voor je het weet blend je op de dansvloer met je chosen family en dans je alsof je nooit anders deed.

Dit keer vullen She Past Away en Bragolin de zaal met donkere romantiek en pompende drummachines, terwijl dj-veteranen CO2 en X-X-X je de hele avond laten stuiteren op de beste wavetunes.
