My Brightest Diamond

Shara Nova, vocaliste formée au classique et multi-instrumentiste autodidacte, éblouit la scène musicale depuis 2006 sous le nom de My Brightest Diamond. Avec cinq albums à son actif, chacun explorant de nouveaux paysages sonores, Nova a su imposer sa voix singulière au cœur de ses compositions.

En juillet 2023, après avoir appris le décès de Sinéad O'Connor, une tempête a plongé sa maison de Détroit dans l’obscurité. Inspirée par l’acte courageux de l’artiste irlandaise lors de sa performance iconique de « War » de Bob Marley, Nova a écrit le morceau « Fight the Real Terror », titre phare de son nouvel album du même nom. Cet album, enregistré en partie à The Loft (studio de Wilco à Chicago), est plus qu’une simple collection de chansons : c’est un appel à l’action, un témoignage de la puissance transformatrice de la musique.

Avec des compositions aussi intimes que vastes, Shara Nova incite à affronter nos peurs et à combattre pour un monde meilleur. Artiste multi-récompensée, elle a reçu des distinctions prestigieuses telles que la bourse Kresge Arts et le prix New Music USA 2022.

Shara Nova, een klassiek geschoolde vocaliste en autodidactische multi-instrumentaliste, is sinds 2006 de muziekscene aan het verblinden onder de naam My Brightest Diamond. Met vijf albums op haar naam, die elk nieuwe sonische landschappen verkennen, heeft Nova haar unieke stem in het hart van haar composities gevestigd. In juli 2023, na het vernemen van de dood van Sinéad O’Connor, dompelde een storm haar huis in Detroit onder in duisternis. Geïnspireerd door de moedige daad van de Ierse artieste tijdens haar iconische uitvoering van Bob Marley’s ‘War’, schreef Nova het nummer ‘Fight the Real Terror’, de leadsingle van haar nieuwe album met dezelfde naam.

Shara Nova, a classically trained vocalist and self-taught multi-instrumentalist, has been recording dazzling, shapeshifting music as My Brightest Diamond since 2006., and has been an ardent performer of new work. Over the years, the band has released five groundbreaking albums, each showcasing a different musical landscape while always centering on Nova's distinctive voice.

Her journey took an unexpected turn in July 2023, when within hours of learning about Sinéad O'Connor's passing, a fierce storm plunged her Detroit home into darkness. As the city held its breath, Nova sat with her guitar, reflecting on O'Connor's iconic SNL performance where she repurposed Bob Marley’s "War" to address child abuse, urging viewers to “fight the real enemy.” Inspired by this act of artistic courage, Nova poured her emotions into a raw demo – the title track "Fight the Real Terror" – which opens her new album, Fight the Real Terror, in its original form. Shara wrote and recorded these songs between July 26 and August 13, 2023. Traveling from her home in Detroit to Chicago, she worked with Tom Schick at Wilco’s studio, The Loft, for five days. More than just a collection of songs; Fight the Real Terror is a call to action, and a testament to the transformative power of music. Nova's powerful vocals and genre-bending compositions are simultaneously intimate and expansive, urging listeners to confront their fears, embrace their vulnerabilities, and fight for a better world. Nova is a Kresge Arts fellow, a Carolina Performing Arts Creative Futures fellow, a Knights Grant recipient, a United States Artists fellow, and a New Music USA 2022 recipient.
