Mirrors

Cleopatra, Agrippina, Rodelinda, Alcina … Behind the melodious names of the great female characters of baroque opera lurk complex psychologies and music that covers the full spectrum of human emotions. In her new concert programme Mirrors, Trinidadian soprano Jeanine De Bique brings together some of the most virtuosic arias of these heroines. Accompanied by the ensemble Concerto Köln, she allows different versions to engage in dialogue with each other: first and foremost those of George Frideric Handel, who drove these typical da capo arias to their high point, but also those of lesser-known contemporaries such as Carl Heinrich Graun, Georg Philipp Telemann and Riccardo Broschi, the brother of the famous castrato Farinelli. These composers often based themselves on the same libretti and in many cases were the actual fathers of these characters, which you can discover in all their different facets during this concert.

Cleopatra, Agrippina, Rodelinda, Alcina : derrière les noms mélodieux des grandes figures féminines de l’opéra baroque se cachent des psychologies complexes et une musique qui couvre toute la gamme des émotions humaines. Dans Mirrors, son nouveau programme de concert, la soprano trinidadienne Jeanine De Bique rassemble certains des airs les plus virtuoses de ces héroïnes. Accompagnée par l’ensemble Concerto Köln, elle fait dialoguer plusieurs versions : tout d’abord celles de Georg Friedrich Haendel, qui a porté à leur zénith ces aria da capo caractéristiques, mais aussi celles de ses contemporains moins connus, comme Carl Heinrich Graun, Georg Philipp Telemann ou Riccardo Broschi – frère du célèbre castrat Farinelli. Ces compositeurs s’appuyaient souvent sur les mêmes livrets et furent, dans bien des cas, les véritables géniteurs de ces personnages dont vous pourrez découvrir les nombreux reflets durant ce concert.

In haar nieuwe concertprogramma Mirrors brengt de Trinidadiaanse sopraan Jeanine De Bique enkele van de meest virtuoze aria’s van deze heldinnen samen.
