One May festival - Labour Day
Description
Celebrate One May festival with us at the Marché aux Porcs in Brussels!
On May 1st, the socialist holiday par excellence, Vooruit.brussels once again invites you to the One May festival at the Marché aux Porcs in Brussels.
This year promises another vibrant edition, packed with music and entertainment for all ages. The free One May festival, hosted by Vooruit.brussels, offers a rich mix of musical genres and cultural influences.
Headlining the One May stage is the legendary Guy Swinnen Band, bringing a solid dose of rock 'n' roll. Expect original songs, well-known and hidden classic rock gems, and even a few Scrabs covers.
Phoenician Drive, a six-piece band founded in Brussels in 2016, blends drums and fuzz guitars with oud, riq and other Eastern percussions. Inspired by 70s East-meets-West musical fusion like Erkin Koray and Orient Express, and influenced by German krautrock, Phoenician Drive creates hypnotic trance rooted in distorted Eastern grooves.
Kaat Van Stralen defies all labels. What began as a solo project has evolved into a genre-bending punk band with Melvin Slabbinck (drums), Anton Robberechts (guitar), and Faust De Vogelaere (bass). Kaat herself is on vocals. Fierce but fair, she challenges every genre, from punk and psychedelia to alternative spoken word. Expect sharp lyrical energy, gritty beats, biting guitar riffs, and booming bass. Kaat Van Stralen recently won De Nieuwe Lichting, Studio Brussel’s music talent contest.
The festival kicks off with Fanfakids, and also features performances by Bex, the Brussels alt-pop band fronted by singer-songwriter Rebecca Driesmans, the punk band Customs, and will close with Brussels DJ talent iNess.
In short: a rich mix of Belgian and Brussels talent! Besides great music, there will be kids’ entertainment and local food trucks. From Belgian fries to delicious Asian cuisine, plus a wide selection of drinks, all at fair prices and served in reusable cups.
The One May festival at the Marché aux Porcs has all the ingredients of a great city festival.
It’s a celebration for and by the people of Brussels, a day to enjoy with friends and family. A festival that puts One May, the Day of Labour, joyfully in the spotlight.
