Citroën DS - An icon turns 70

The word "icon" is often misused. However, if there is one car that truly deserves to be called "iconic," it is the Citroën DS. The impact left by the "Déesse" (French for godess) when it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1955 has rarely been matched, let alone surpassed.

From April 25 to June 29, "la bombe Citroën," as the DS was called at its launch, will once again make an impact at Autoworld.

Autoworld presents a unique collection in "Citroën DS – An Icon Turns 70" showcasing almost every version and variant. From the first ID19 to the ID19 Pallas, which embodied pure luxury, to the DS23 Pallas, the last DS to roll off the production line in 1975.

As the icing on the cake, starting May 26, the Citroën DS "Ballons" will join the exhibition. This iconic model was designed in 1959 by Claude Puech, then director of advertising at Citroën, and was first presented at the Paris Motor Show.

The DS Balloons features a DS 19 in the orange shade "Ecaille Blonde," resting on four enormous balloons instead of wheels. These symbolize the spheres of the famous hydropneumatic suspension, creating the illusion that the car is floating.
Photos of this visionary idea spread around the world at the time, reinforcing the DS's status as an avant-garde and timeless work of art.

Having become a standalone brand, DS Automobiles will present the all-new DS N°8, which will also be exhibited in the museum. This 100% electric SUV builds on the reputation of the original DS.

The DS N°8 is inspired by the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE concept. It offers impeccable quality, long range, and total comfort, making it the most serene electric car. The DS N°8 boasts a WLTP range of 750 km and over 500 km on the highway, thanks to an excellent drag coefficient (Cx) of 0.24.

On Sunday, May 4, from 10 AM to 2 PM, Autoworld organises a "Citroën-DS & Coffee" Event.
Owners of Citroën classics or any DS model (including current models) are invited— upon pre-registration via the Autoworld website—to join this unique birthday celebration on the Esplanade in front of the museum, honoring the DS.

Visitors are also warmly welcome to admire the stunning Citroëns and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere surrounding this legendary French car.

This exhibition is organized by Autoworld with the support of DS Automobiles and the Amicale of Belgian Citroën Clubs (ABCC).

Autoworld présente une collection unique dans ‘Citroën DS – An Icon Turns, avec à peu près toutes les versions et variantes. De la première ID19 en passant par la ID19 Pallas qui recherchait le luxe total à la DS23 Pallas, dernier modèle à être sorti de chaînes de production en 1975.

Devenue une marque à part entière DS Automobiles présentera la toute dernière DS N°8 sera également exposée au musée. Ce SUV 100 % électrique s'appuie sur la réputation de la DS originale.

La DS N°8 s'inspire du concept DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE. Elle offre une qualité irréprochable, une grande autonomie et un confort total, ce qui en fait la voiture électrique la plus sereine. La DS N°8 affiche une autonomie de 750 km WLTP et de plus de 500 km sur autoroute grâce à un excellent Cx de 0,24.

Le dimanche 4 mai, Autoworld organise le ‘Citroën-DS & Coffee’ de 10h à 14h, en collaboration avec ABCC et DS Automobiles, où toute Citroën classique ou tout modèle DS (y compris les modèles actuels) est invité à se rendre à Autoworld - sous réserve d'inscription préalable via le site web d'Autoworld - pour une célébration d'anniversaire unique sur l'Esplanade devant le musée en l'honneur de la DS.

En tant que spectateur, vous êtes également invité à venir voir les belles Citroën et à profiter de l'ambiance ludique qui entoure cette voiture mythique française.

Op zondag 4 mei organiseert Autoworld van 10 tot 14u in samenwerking met ABCC en DS Automobiles de ‘Citroën-DS & Coffee’ waarbij iedereen met Citroën klassieker of elk DS-model (ook huidige modellen) gevraagd wordt om – mits voorinschrijving via de website van Autoworld - naar Autoworld af te zakken voor een uniek verjaardagsfeest op de Esplanade voor het museum ter ere van de DS.
Ook als toeschouwer bent u van harte welkom om de prachtige Citroën’s te komen aanschouwen en te genieten van de leuke sfeer rond deze Franse mythische wagen.
