Description
Dutch writer Jessica Lutz worked for decades as a foreign correspondent on the frontlines of Turkey and the Middle East. But when covering crises began hitting her own ability to do her job, she looked in the mirror, switched careers and focused her newsgathering skills on what she increasingly saw as a chronic underlying problem of society: rethinking what we value as success.
She came to see that we're all driven by our unique combination of two thinking patterns, the other-oriented We-mind and self-centered Me-mind. We have both, but lead with one. Most men (but not all) lead with their Me-mind, focused on their own well-being. Most women (but not all) are more we-minded, focused on the well-being of the people around them. However, as Jessica reveals, this is about much more than women and men. Both minds come with their own values, priorities, strategies and communication styles. Above all, the problem is that we only really value the way our Me-mind does things.
Recent political developments on both sides of the ocean mean that we're about to be hit by a tsunami of 'me-minded' thinking. This will have repercussions not only for how Western governments and companies approach the limited resources of the world, the millions of people in need, but also, closer to home, it's likely to affect how women will be treated.
Join Jessica for a discussion of her book 'We-Mind vs. Me-Mind, a New Vision for Success in Leadership and Life', and how you can do your share in everyday life to counter the imminent backlash.
