Few works have influenced music history as profoundly as Wagner’s musical drama Tristan und Isolde. Chief conductor and Wagner specialist Antony Hermus performs a 75-minute orchestral arrangement by Dutch composer Henk de Vlieger. This is extended, especially for this concert, to include the original love duet from the second act and Isolde’s Liebestod from the last act. In it, Viennese star soprano Martina Serafin takes the part of Isolde and American star tenor Ben Gulley sings the role of Tristan.

Peu d'œuvres ont influencé l’histoire de la musique aussi profondément que le drame musical de Wagner, Tristan und Isolde. Le chef d’orchestre et spécialiste de Wagner, Antony Hermus, interprète un arrangement orchestral de 75 minutes réalisé par le compositeur néerlandais Henk de Vlieger. Cet arrangement a été étendu, spécialement pour ce concert, afin d’inclure le duo d’amour original du deuxième acte et l'air Liebestod d'Isolde au dernier acte. Dans ce celui-ci, la célèbre soprano viennoise Martina Serafin se glisse dans la peau d’Isolde tandis que le grand ténor américain Ben Gulley chante le rôle de Tristan.

Weinig werken hebben de muziekgeschiedenis zo diepgaand beïnvloed als Wagners muziekdrama Tristan und Isolde. Chef-dirigent en Wagnerspecialist Antony Hermus voert een 75 minuten durend orkestraal arrangement op van de Nederlandse componist Henk de Vlieger. Dat wordt, speciaal voor dit concert, uitgebreid met het originele liefdesduet uit het tweede bedrijf en Isoldes Liebestod uit het laatste bedrijf. De Weense stersopraan Martina Serafin kruipt daarbij in de huid van Isolde en de Amerikaanse stertenor Ben Gulley zingt de rol van Tristan. “De wereld is arm voor iemand die nog nooit zo ziek is geweest om dit ‘helse plezier’ te proeven,” zo schreef Nietzsche ooit.
