Hybrid Festival - Music festival for possible futures

In 2025 is Grand Theatre voor het eerst locatie van (link: https://hybridfestival.nl/ text: Hybrid Festival), een muziekfestival voor mogelijke toekomsten, georganiseerd door onze culturele partners en buren VERA en OOST. Op 1 maart 2025 verkennen we de gemeenschappelijke grond tussen de sonische grenzen van verschillende scenes en omgevingen binnen Groningen.

Hybrid vindt plaats in beide clubs in de Oosterstraat, evenals in de monumentale Akerk en de Beneden- en Bovenzaal van Grand Theatre, en onthult de vele potentiële routes van hedendaagse muziek. Het is een podium voor de mondiale avant-garde, terwijl deze andere vormen aanneemt, richting aanwijst en omleidingen neemt. Unieke stemmen van elektronische, experimentele, pop-, dans- en gitaar-gebaseerde muziek tonen het heden in een staat van transformatie, om te onthullen wat er aan komt in de wereld van geluid.

Bianca Scout is a musician with a background in contemporary and classical dance, whose performances combine movement direction and storytelling, within a distorted landscape of displacement, yearning and the undead. Scout’s mysterious mix of pop and grunge feels fractured but whole. In her hands, Medieval church music and vocal harmony blend into a brooding drew punctuated by fits of dusty breaks and smothered percussion. She steers you into the abyss, yet is the compass that guides your way back out.

NEXCYIA is an African-American/French sound artist, and experimental ambient musician based between Berlin and Paris. His compositions seamlessly blend immersive sound design and textural soundscapes using elements of noise, granular synthesis, found sounds and rhythms. His work traverses various moods and emotions, delving into themes of otherness and belonging, using an approach of ayering and manipulating archival audio sourced and compiled from home videos and the deep corners of the internet. During Hybrid, NEXCYIA will be accompanied by Moventia, the vj-ing side-quest of audio-visual artist Niki Cardoso Zaupa. In his visual work, Moventia employs algorithmic generative imagery, abstracted found footage and multi-sensorial data visualisations to accompany and complement sound in the most organic way possible.

Velocity Made Good creates music that’s sharp, daring, and electric. Armed with synths, guitar, and live drums, the duo from Leeuwarden fuses refined EBM with raw rock energy, shifting from calm to chaos with storm-like intensity. Velocity Made Good found their sound in the solitude and vastness of the sea, where their first tracks were written. Their music captures a perfect balance of control and wildness, drawing audiences into a charged, immersive experience where music and movement become one.

Sixsixsevenfortyseven is the raw, unfiltered live A/V project of NVST & Zohar that cuts straight to the core of their emotional journey. Merging chaos with connection, they dive headfirst into the gritty realities of love, vulnerability and resilience. She says to me, “forever seven forty seven, can you see me?” I stood there—time stopped, reality blurred. This is the world now. What happens when noise disappears? Shotgun is a beautiful bird.
