Choreomania

Choreographer Mette Ingvartsen seeks incandescence, contagion, and a circulation of energies and emotions as she continues to explore questions such as: Can you choose to open your body to contamination? What does interconnection mean? How can our emotions be collectively adjusted and navigated? How can we integrate the history of choreomanias into our bodies and contemporary contexts? As a group, can we deal with these intense states choreographically, non-theatrically, and even psychologically?A 2004 graduate of P.A.R.T.S. herself, Mette Ingvartsen has developed an art form with a strong identity, deeply connected to the realities of the world. Invited to train Generation XIV at the school, the artist chose to work with the entire group, fully involving them in this research. It is a long-term endeavour that embraces choreography and performance, along with the challenges and turmoil of our times.

En 2021, Mette Ingvartsen créait The Dancing Public, à partir des "dance marathons" des USA pendant la Grande Dépression, et des épidémies dansantes répertoriées dans l'Europe médiévale. Documents qui à leur tour servent de trame à cette nouvelle création pour et avec 40 étudiant·e·s de P.A.R.T.S. C'est une incandescence, une contagion, une circulation d'énergies et d'émotions que recherche la chorégraphe en continuant à creuser ces questions. Peut-on choisir d'ouvrir son corps à la contamination? Que signifie l'interconnexion? Comment moduler nos affects et y naviguer collectivement? Comment intégrer l'histoire des chorémanies dans nos corps et nos contextes contemporains? Peut-on traiter, comme groupe, ces états intenses de manière chorégraphique et non théâtrale ou psychologique? Elle-même diplômée de P.A.R.T.S. en 2004, Mette Ingvartsen a élaboré un art à la forte personnalité, jamais déconnecté des réalités du monde. Conviée à encadrer la promotion Génération XIV de l'école, l'artiste a résolu de travailler avec l'ensemble du groupe, pleinement impliqué dans cette recherche. Un travail au long cours, qui embrasse tant la chorégraphie et l'interprétation elles-mêmes que les enjeux et les tourments de notre temps.

Kunnen we ervoor kiezen ons lichaam open te stellen voor besmetting? Wat betekent onderlinge verbondenheid? Hoe kunnen we onze gevoelens moduleren en er collectief doorheen navigeren? Hoe kunnen we de geschiedenis van choreomania integreren in onze lichamen en onze hedendaagse context? Kunnen we hier als groep choreografisch mee omgaan, in plaats van theatraal of psychologisch? Aan de hand van deze vragen onderzoekt choreografe Mette Ingvartsen een onstuimigheid, een transmissie, een circulatie van energieën en emoties. Ingvartsen, die in 2004 zelf afstudeerde aan P.A.R.T.S., heeft doorheen de jaren een kunstvorm ontwikkeld met een sterke identiteit die altijd in relatie staat tot de wereld rondom ons. Ze werd uitgenodigd om met Generatie XIV van de dansschool een nieuwe voorstelling te creëren en besloot om de ganse groep te betrekken bij het onderzoek. Een werk van lange adem dat zowel de choreografie en de vertolking ervan als de uitdagingen en moeilijkheden van onze tijd omvat.
