Daniel Wesseik (b. 1985) is an Amsterdam based visual artist and educator, working primarily with animation, illustration, and typography.
His body of work encompasses short films, animated loops, and drawings that are characterised by playful and poetic narratives and an experimental approach. His works were presented in numerous film festivals and exhibitions in the Netherlands and around the world.
Wesseik’s creative practice merges analogue and digital tools, with a typewriter playing a significant role in his work. In 2024, as a guest of the Hiroshima Animation Festival Residency, he began integrating a Japanese typewriter into his creative process, which continues to influence his practice today.

In his talk, Wesseik will delve into his use of a typewriter and playful approach to typography, which is intertwined with his fascination for imaginary languages (glossolalia). He will share insights from his creative process, from conceptual thinking to the construction of drawings and animated works. The talk will also cover his three-month residency in Hiroshima as a guest of the Hiroshima Animation Festival, where he integrated a Japanese typewriter and further developed ongoing projects.
