Fanny, een 17-jarige scholiere uit Frankrijk, gaat op uitwisseling naar Duitsland. In Leipzig ontmoet ze haar pen pal Lena, die even oud is als zij maar totaal anders. Fanny is verlegen, lijkt jong voor haar leeftijd en wordt op school gepest. Lena heeft een matje, draagt blauwe eyeliner, laat haar okselhaar staan en houdt zich volop bezig met politiek activisme. De twee spreken elkaars taal op meerdere manieren niet. Desondanks probeert Fanny indruk te maken op haar nieuwe vriendin, met alle gevolgen van dien.
