The music of Ali is the result of a whole new approach to opera composition. In their score, Grey Filastine, Walid Ben Selim and Brent Arnold combine the propulsive power of electro beats and live percussion with the nuance of an orchestral sound and the raw, direct emotion of the human voice. It is music at the crossroads of different styles, influences and modes, able to express the most diverse landscapes and emotional states of Ali’s journey.

A week before opening night, we welcome the three composers for an accessible introductory talk at the KVS TOP. They will introduce you to the world of contemporary opera composition, where the combination of digital software, pre-recorded soundscapes and live music offers limitless possibilities. The evening will end with a convivial reception in the KVS Bar.

Ali n’est pas seulement une histoire fascinante : le projet propose aussi une nouvelle approche de l’opéra. En partant d’échantillons de travail de musique électronique et de voix, des expérimentations ont été réalisées sur un logiciel numérique avant la création d’une partition orchestrale.  Comment Grey Filastine, Walid Ben Selim et Brent Arnold ont-ils collaboré ensemble ? Comment ont-ils fusionné leurs différents styles musicaux, leurs différentes influences et méthodes de travail pour aboutir à une seule œuvre ? Comment ont-ils trouvé les sonorités idéales pour représenter chaque étape du voyage d’Ali ?

Afin de répondre à ces questions, nous accueillerons l’équipe de composition au grand complet ! Lors de cette rencontre, au Studio KVS TOP, les trois compositeurs vous dévoileront tous les secrets de fabrication de ce nouvel opéra. La soirée se clôturera par une réception conviviale au KVS Bar.

Ali vertrekt niet alleen van een navrant, waargebeurd levensverhaal, maar ook van een heel nieuwe benadering van operacompositie. De partituur van Grey Filastine, Walid Ben Selim en Brent Arnold combineert de stuwende kracht van electrobeats en live-percussie met de nuance van een orkestrale sound en de rauwe, directe emotie van de menselijke stem. Het is muziek op het kruispunt van verschillende stijlen, invloeden en procédes, in staat om de meest diverse landschappen en gevoelstoestanden van Ali’s tocht te verklanken.

Een week voor de première ontvangen we de drie componisten in de KVS TOP voor een toegankelijke ‘talk’ over hun partituur en de schier eindeloze mogelijkheden om authentieke livemuziek te verrijken via digitale software en vooraf opgenomen soundscapes. De avond wordt afgesloten met een gezellige receptie in de KVS Bar.
