Alexis Julémont’s latest creation, Nostalgica, portrays a family living in
isolation in a tropical forest. The parents and their three children, who were
born into this wild environment, spend their time filming themselves in a small
purpose-built studio in a clearing next to their house. Their life seems to flow
peacefully, free of any material constraints, their sole obsession the making of
these ‘family films’.
By recording on film their daily life away from the world, the characters tell
their stories, document their actions and thoughts, and look for ways out. But
beneath the veneer of these fleeting moments, a drama looms. Can this life as
outsiders last forever?

Nouvelle création d’Alexis Julémont, Nostalgica met en scène une famille qui vit
isolée dans la forêt tropicale. Les parents et leurs trois enfants, né·es dans
cet environnement sauvage, passent leur temps à se filmer dans un petit studio
construit à cet effet, situé dans une clairière attenante à leur maison. Leur
existence semble s’écouler paisiblement, hors de toute contingence matérielle,
obnubilée par la réalisation de ces « films de famille ».
En imprimant sur pellicule leur quotidien reclus du monde, les personnages se
racontent, documentent leurs actes et leurs pensées, et se cherchent des
échappatoires. Mais sous le vernis de ces instants fugaces, un drame se profile.
Cette vie en marge peut-elle durer éternellement ?

In Nostalgica, de nieuwe creatie van Alexis Julémont, leeft een gezin in
afzondering in het regenwoud. De ouders en hun drie kinderen, die in deze
onherbergzame omgeving werden geboren, brengen hun tijd door met zichzelf te
filmen in een kleine, speciaal daartoe gebouwde studio op een open plek vlak bij
hun huis. Hun leven lijkt rustig te verlopen, vrij van materiële beslommeringen,
volledig in de ban van het maken van deze ”familiefilms”.
Door hun dagelijks leven ver van de bewoonde wereld op pellicule vast te leggen,
vertellen de personages hun verhaal aan elkaar, documenteren ze hun handelingen
en hun gedachten voor elkaar en zoeken ze uitwegen voor zichzelf. Maar onder het
vernis van deze vluchtige momenten tekent zich een drama af. Kan dit leven in de
marge eeuwig blijven duren?
