At STAMplein square, a separate part of the museum with changing programmes, you can visit the exhibition “Heavy Metal”. Finds from cities with a medieval past give us an insight into the daily lives, the work and the lifestyle of people living centuries ago. This exhibition highlights a rich, but underappreciated archaeological subject from our medieval cities: metal finds. The ‘Medieval Metal’ research project funded by the Flemish agency for immovable heritage (2020-2022) mapped the great diversity of metal objects from urban excavations. You can discover the results on STAMplein square. Prefer not to wait in line at the ticket booth? Want to be sure you can discover the STAM when you want to? Then book your tickets online in advance and enjoy your visit to the fullest. Are you driving to Ghent? First check whether you may enter the city centre with your vehicle. Clean vehicles may enter the city centre free of charge, polluting vehicles have to pay. Is your vehicle allowed to enter, but do you not have a Belgian or Dutch number plate? You will ALWAYS have to register!
At STAMplein square, a separate part of the museum with changing programmes, you can visit the heritage project “The square kilometre”. Here you can learn all about the Ledeberg neighbourhood. Historian in residence Tina de Gendt searched for hidden histories in Ledeberg with a group of enthusiastic ‘rememberers’. They searched for urban legends and discussed open questions. Questions about the neighbourhood and its residents, about the city, about yesterday, today, tomorrow, and about so much more. You can discover the result of their search in the STAM. Marc Sleen would have celebrated his one hundredth birthday in 2022 . His brainchild Nero reached the age of 75. Two reasons for the Marc Sleen Foundation and the STAM museum to organise an exhibition at the STAMplein square. Cities play an important in Marc Sleen’s oeuvre.  His native town of Ghent and other cities like Antwerp and Brussels often serve as the setting for the adventures of Nero & Co. The exhibition “The city speaks” not only displays original works by Marc Sleen but also by a new generation of comic book authorise like Judith Van Istendael, Guy Delisle, Joost Swarte, Aimée de Jongh and Tardi. Each of them portrays a city they have a special connection with.
