‘Van privé naar publiek’ werpt een blik op een verzamelwoede die zijn oorsprong
en inspiratie kent meteen na het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Thomas
Neirynck was een kind van zijn tijd, beleefde deze oorlog als jonge twintiger,
wat zich uit in zijn keuze van kunstwerken. Hij zocht naar vernieuwing, naar
kunstenaars die de vrijheid van expressie voorop stelden en die het onvatbare
van de oorlogsjaren achter zich wilden laten. In die zin was hij een amateur in
de ware zin van het woord, gedreven door passie, sentiment en fascinatie voor de
kunstenaar.Grote en waardige werken van Antoine Mortier, kleurrijke doeken van
Maurice Wijckaert, allegorische schilderijen van Fred Bervoets, uitbundige
werken van Philippe Vandenberg en poëtische werken van Jo Delahaut. Maar ook
kunstwerken van minder bekende kunstenaars, zoals Tal Coat, Yvan Theys, André
Lanskoy, Jacques Doucet, Lionel Vinche. Een groot stuk van de collectie komt uit
de huiselijke sfeer van de verzamelaar. Het FeliXart Museum plaatst een selectie
uit de collectie in haar tijd en beoordeeld de verzameling naar de waardes die
ze vandaag nog heeft. Door de kunstwerken die oorspronkelijk uit een
privécollectie komen tentoon te stellen in een museale ruimte, verschuift de
perceptie en krijgen ze grandeur.

'Du privé au public' offre un regard sur une manie de collectionneur qui a vu le
jour et a été inspirée immédiatement après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
Thomas Neirynck était un enfant de son temps, vivant cette guerre comme un jeune
homme de vingt ans, ce qui se reflète dans le choix de ses œuvres d'art. Il
recherchait des œuvres qui entraient en résonnance avec son vécu, qui
exprimaient son besoin de renouveau et de modernité, des œuvres qu'il aurait
peut-être aimé peindre lui-même. En ce sens, il était un amateur au sens propre
du terme, animé par la passion, le sentiment et la fascination pour l'artiste.
Des œuvres grandes et dignes d'Antoine Mortier, des toiles colorées de Maurice
Wyckaert, des tableaux allégoriques de Fred Bervoets, des œuvres exubérantes de
Philippe Vandenberg et des œuvres poétiques de Jo Delahaut. Mais aussi des
œuvres d'artistes moins connus, tels que Tal Coat, Yvan Theys, André Lanskoy,
Jacques Doucet et Lionel Vinche. Une grande partie de la collection provient de
la maison du collectionneur. Le FeliXart Museum replace une sélection de la
collection dans son époque et l'évalue en fonction des valeurs qu'elle revêt
aujourd'hui. En exposant dans un musée des œuvres d'art provenant à l'origine
d'une collection privée, la perception change et elles gagnent en grandeur.

'From private to public' casts a glance at a collector's mania that had its
origin and inspiration immediately after the end of the Second World War. Thomas
Neirynck was a child of his time, experiencing this war as a young
twenty-something, which is reflected in his choice of works of art. He was
looking for innovation, for artists who put freedom of expression first and who
wanted to leave the intangible of the war years behind them. In that sense, he
was an amateur in the true sense of the word, driven by passion, sentiment and
fascination for the artist.Large and dignified works by Antoine Mortier,
colourful canvases by Maurice Wyckaert, allegorical paintings by Fred Bervoets,
exuberant works by Philippe Vandenberg and poetic works by Jo Delahaut. But also
works of art by less well-known artists, such as Tal Coat, Yvan Theys, André
Lanskoy, Jacques Doucet and Lionel Vinche. A large part of the collection comes
from the collector's home. The FeliXart Museum places a selection from the
collection in its time and assesses it according to the values it holds today.
By exhibiting the works of art that originally came from a private collection in
a museum space, the perception shifts and they gain grandeur.
