van Buuren Museum and Gardens

Description

The museum-like house retains the intimate atmosphere of a private home, featuring rare furniture, signed carpets, stained glass windows, sculptures, and paintings by Belgian and international masters, all in their original places. In 1913, Mr. van Buuren purchased his first painting by Gustaaf van de Woestijne, later acquiring around 30 more works by this Latem artist. This valuable collection, including works by Hercules Seghers, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Georges Minne, and Rik Wouters, is still on display in the house. After her husband’s death, Mrs. van Buuren lovingly maintained the now-classified garden in honor of her husband and their unique Art Deco home. Today, the “Friends of the David and Alice van Buuren Museum” foundation manages both the museum and the gardens.
