Description

Met hun combinatie van direct herkenbare jangle pop en slimme teksten verscheen het Canadese duo Ducks Ltd. in 2019 met een knal op de kaart. Hun energieke indierocknummers, in een adem genoemd met bands als Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever en Kiwi Jr., verraden een encyclopedische kennis van de underground gitaarmuziek van de 80’s. Denk The Chills, Flying Nun Records, The Go Betweens en consoorten. Rammelende gitaren en catchy songs die zich meteen in je hoofd nestelen zonder aan scherpte in te boeten.

Enige kritiek over hun debuutalbum ‘Modern Fiction’ (2021): met z’n 29 minuten en 45 seconden is de plaat veel te kort. Verder werd Ducks Ltd. geroemd door alle relevante blogs en muziekmagazines:

Bram De Looze: piano Jos Machtel: double bass Matthias De Waele: drums De jazzopleidingen in België zijn de laatste jaren van bijzonder hoog niveau. Talent máak je echter niet en dat bewijst pianist Bram De Looze, die al op piepjonge leeftijd gespot werd als één van die rasmuzikanten die de komende decennia de klank van de Belgische jazz mee zal bepalen. De 22-jarige De Looze woont sinds een jaar in New York, waar hij zich een weg baant tussen de internationale top. Dat belette hem niet in zijn thuisland naarstig op zoek te gaan naar manieren om zijn creativiteit te uiten. Parallel met het hippe LABtrio, waarin hij vooral eigen werk presenteert, neemt hij nu ook een frisse duik in het repertoire van grootheden als Charles Mingus en Thelonious Monk. Dat doet hij samen met een jonge collega en een éminence grise van de Belgische jazzscene. De uit Nederland afkomstige bassist Jos Machtel is sinds jaar en dag verbonden aan het internationaal gelauwerde Brussels Jazz Orchestra. In zijn rijke carrière toerde hij de wereld rond en woonde en werkte in steden als Kansas en Madrid. Hij speelde intussen samen met illustere grootheden als Lee Konitz, Woody Shaw, Deborah Brown en Philip Catherine. Drummer Matthias De Waele is wat ze noemen een laatbloeier. Alvorens muziek te studeren behaalde hij zijn diploma Criminologische Wetenschappen. Na zijn studies stortte hij zich op zijn muzikale carrière en ontpopte zich in een mum van tijd tot een gedegen jazzdrummer, in de stijl van zijn grote voorbeeld Philly Joe Jones. Naast dit trio kan je hem terug vinden bij beloftevolle jonge groepen als Trioxide en Phd.

During the Pentecost weekend the city of Ghent presents an annual baroque music festival with music of the three great masters of German Baroque: Bach, Telemann and Graupner. Every year, Florian Heyerick selects an instrument and brings together specialists from home and abroad to provide the public with this baroque pearls. This year it is all about the violin. Expect next to concerts with cantatas, orchestral works and many chamber also an Open Stage, a Telemarathon, lectures, city tours, a children's program, world and jazz music, and many known and unknown masterpieces performed by a pleiad of outstanding musicians on several attractive sites. In between the quince makes for an equally refreshing and surprising culinary discovery. Are you driving to Ghent? First check whether you may enter the city centre with your vehicle. The other, a confused small town country kid from New Zealand trying to adapt to the manic German way of life. Given these two vastly different backgrounds we have a mix of two competing comedic styles; dark, edgy and punchy versus warm, cute and absurd - you guess who is who. The Comedians: Fitz is a comedian who has performed across New Zealand and Australia to sell out audiences. He has brought his comedy to Europe having moved here in 2023. Fitz's comedic style has been described as warm, punchy and energetic. His shows are jam packed with absurd commentary on life in Europe and wild stories of growing up on a farm in New Zealand. Harshat Grew up between the chaotic concrete jungles and the equally chaotic countryside of India. Currently, he is trying to forget the Bollywood remix tunes but still bring a Desi angle to his comedy in Berlin. He derives his wit from his satirical grandmother and his comedy is based on real life observations and childhood tales. His funny bone was developed as a coping mechanism for his chaotic upbringing and is now used to gain the attention he craves. These two comedians couldn't be more different and have become friends in the most unlikely circumstances. With this show you are really getting it all, guaranteed laughs and very contrasting perspectives. Be ready to be left in stitches saying to yourself "funny really is black and white".
