This event takes place in the framework of the Close-up: Apichatpong Weerasethakul. The Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul picks La Captive as one of his favourite films and will give an introduction before the screening.
Together with cinematographer Eric De Kuyper, Akerman evokes Simon's doomed attempts to control and possess his girlfriend Ariane. He pursues her and demands she share every thought. A grey-coloured Paris is both Ariane's cell and playground. The swelling, romantic music by Rachmaninov and others breaks the visual modesty and accentuates the couple's tragedy.
With the exhibition Chantal Akerman. Travelling, Bozar gave much attention to the Belgian filmmaker, writer and artist. Chantal Akerman remains an example for many directors and artists today and will inspire many generations to come. With La Captive, for example, a 2000 drama film partly based on Marcel Proust's novel La Prisonnière (1923). 
The Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman has directed more than 40 films and created several art installations. She tackled such diverse media as film, television, text and installation. Her best-known work is the avant-garde classic Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975).

Cet événement est organisé dans le cadre du Close-up : Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Le cinéaste thaïlandais Apichatpong Weerasethakul a choisi La Captive comme l'un de ses films préférés et donnera une introduction avant la projection. 
Avec le cinéaste Eric De Kuyper, Chantal Akerman évoque les tentatives infructueuses de Simon pour contrôler et posséder sa petite amie Ariane. Il la poursuit et exige qu'elle partage la moindre de ses pensées. Paris, aux nuances de gris, est à la fois la prison et le terrain de jeu d'Ariane. La musique vibrante et romantique de Rachmaninov et d'autres compositeurs rompt la pudeur visuelle et accentue la tragédie du couple.
Avec l'exposition Chantal Akerman. Travelling, Bozar a accordé une grande attention à la cinéaste, écrivaine et artiste belge. Chantal Akerman reste un exemple pour de nombreux réalisateurs et artistes d'aujourd'hui et inspirera de nombreuses générations à venir. Notamment avec La Captive, un film dramatique sorti en 2000 partiellement basé sur le roman de Marcel Proust La Prisonnière (1923).

Elle s’est exprimée à travers des supports aussi divers que le cinéma, la télévision, le texte et l'installation. Dit evenement vindt plaats binnen de Close-up: Apichatpong Weerasethakul. De Thaise cineast Apichatpong Weerasethakul kiest La Captive als één van zijn lievelingsfilms en zal de film inleiden. 
Samen met coscenarist Eric De Kuyper evoceert Akerman de tot mislukken gedoemde pogingen van Simon om zijn vriendin Ariane te controleren en te bezitten. Hij achtervolgt haar en eist dat ze iedere gedachte deelt. Een grauw ingekleurd Parijs is zowel de cel als het speeldomein van Ariane. De aanzwellende, romantische muziek van onder andere Rachmaninov doorbreekt de visuele ingetogenheid en accentueert de tragiek van het koppel.
Met de tentoonstelling Chantal Akerman. Travelling gaf Bozar in het voorjaar 2024 veel aandacht aan de Belgische cineaste, schrijfster en kunstenares. Chantal Akerman blijft een voorbeeld voor heel wat regisseurs en artiesten vandaag en zal nog vele generaties na ons inspireren. Zo ook met La Captive, een dramafilm uit 2000, deels gebaseerd op de roman La Prisonnière (1923) van Marcel Proust.
