By the Time it Gets Dark by Anocha Suwichakornpong is an audacious and experimental film that, through narrative layering, intertwines the stories of Thai students who were victims of a massacre in 1976.
In the framework of the Close-up: Apichatpong Weerasethakul the Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul picks a series of films, including contemporary Thai works. By the Time it Gets Dark by Anocha Suwichakornpong is one of his favorite choices alongside Railway Sleepers and Manta Ray. You will have the chance to see it in an exceptional setting on the rooftop of Bozar on September 20, 2024. 
In 1976, dozens of protesters were killed during demonstrations against the return to power of dictator Thanom Kittikachorn in Thailand. By the Time it Gets Dark is inspired by this tragic event, following a young filmmaker who sets out to make a documentary about an woman activist.
Anocha Suwichakornpong (1976, Thailand) is a scriptwriter, director and owner of production house Electric Eel Films. Graceland (2006) became the first Thai short film to be included in the Official Selection at Cannes Film Festival. Mundane History (2009), her feature film debut, won a Tiger Award at IFFR'10.

Dans le cadre du Close-up : Apichatpong Weerasethakul, le cinéaste a sélectionné une série de films à (re)découvrir et notamment des œuvres thailandaises contemporaines. By the Time it Gets Dark de Anocha Suwichakornpong est l’un de ses choix favoris aux côtés de Railway Sleepers et Manta Ray. Vous pourrez le voir dans un cadre exceptionnel sur notre rooftop.
En 1976, des dizaines de manifestants furent tués lors de protestations contre le retour au pouvoir du dictateur Thanom Kittikachor en Thaïlande. By the Time it Gets Dark s’inspire de cet évènement tragique en suivant une jeune cinéaste qui entreprend de réaliser un documentaire sur une militante. 
Anocha Suwichakornpong est scénariste, réalisatrice et à la tête de la maison de production Electric Eel Films. Son film Graceland (2006) est le premier court métrage thaïlandais à avoir été sélectionné en compétition officielle au Festival de Cannes. Mundane History (2009), son premier long métrage, a remporté un Tiger Award au IFFR'10.

Als onderdeel van zijn Close-up heeft filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul een reeks te (her)ontdekken films geselecteerd, waaronder hedendaags Thais werk. By the Time it Gets Dark van Suwichakornpong is, naast Railway Sleepers en Manta Ray, een van zijn favorieten. Je kunt de film zien in een uitzonderlijke setting op onze rooftop.
