Davóne Tines & The Truth

The American bass-baritone Davóne Tines, who wowed last season’s audience at Bozar in the title role of Rufus Wainwright’s Hadrian, is back with a remarkable recital accompanied by his band The Truth. Anyone who has attended a Tines recital in the past will know better than to expect a traditional performance. Tines opts for a lavish mixture of opera, lieder, spirituals and protest music to tell a profoundly personal story. In his latest project, ROBESO?: A Classical Americana Electro-Gospel Acid Trip, Tines explores his connection with Paul Robeson. This singer and activist, who attempted suicide in a hotel bathroom during his political exile in Moscow, claimed that the CIA had poisoned him with LSD. This shocking event opened the door for Tines to a personal exploration of a man to whom he has compared himself throughout his life.  
This concert was moved from the Henry Le Boeuf Hall to Terarken.

Le baryton-basse américain Davóne Tines, qui brillait la saison dernière à Bozar dans le rôle principal d'Hadrian de Rufus Wrainwright, revient aujourd'hui avec un récital spécial, accompagné de son groupe The Truth. Quiconque a déjà assisté à un récital de Tines sait qu'il ne faut pas s'attendre à une performance classique. Tines opte pour un riche mélange d'opéra, de chansons, de spirituals et de musique de protestation pour raconter une histoire profondément personnelle. Dans son dernier projet, ROBESO?: A Classical Americana Electro-Gospel Acid Trip, Tines explore son lien avec Paul Robeson. Ce chanteur et activiste, ayant tenté de se suicider dans les toilettes d'un hôtel pendant son exil politique à Moscou, a prétendu que la CIA l'avait empoisonné au LSD. Cet événement choquant a ouvert à Tines la porte à l’exploration personnelle du destin d’un homme auquel il s'est comparé toute sa vie.

De Amerikaanse bas-bariton Davóne Tines, die vorig seizoen nog bij Bozar schitterde in de hoofdrol van Hadrian van Rufus Wrainwright, keert nu terug met een bijzonder recital, vergezeld door zijn band The Truth. Wie al eerder een recital van Tines bijwoonde, weet dat men geen klassieke uitvoering kan verwachten. Tines kiest voor een rijke mix van opera, liederen, spirituals en protestmuziek om een diep persoonlijk verhaal te vertellen. In zijn nieuwste project, ROBESO?: A Classical Americana Electro-Gospel Acid Trip, onderzoekt Tines zijn connectie met Paul Robeson. Deze zanger en activist, die gedurende zijn politieke ballingschap in Moskou een zelfmoordpoging deed in een hotelbadkamer, beweerde dat de CIA hem had vergiftigd met LSD. Deze schokkende gebeurtenis opende de deur voor Tines naar een persoonlijke exploratie naar een man met wie hij zichzelf zijn hele leven heeft vergeleken.  
Dit concert werd verplaatst van de Henry Le Boeufzaal naar Terarken.
