Hotel Solvay by Victor Horta

Description

In 1894, Armand Solvay, the son of industrialist Ernest Solvay, commissioned the Art Nouveau architect Victor Horta to design a residence for him and his family. This house would be constructed on Brussels’ Avenue Louise.
The revolutionary architect Victor Horta broke with all forms of architectural tradition. Every element was rethought by the master builder in terms of technical progress. This is evident in the spatial arrangement, the choice of materials, the heating, ventilation, and lighting.
For the creation of the Solvay House, Horta was given no budgetary constraints, allowing the architect to go to the utmost limits. From the floor plan to the choice of marbles, from the furniture to the chandeliers and carpets, everything in this house bears his signature.
