********** English ********** The world première of trio Di Domenico, Lau & Bennett new album 'Tidal Perspectives' which will be released on 14 June in a limited edition of 300 LPs by Editions Basilic.Recorded across a single afternoon in Brussels, Belgium, the album’s four parts are a rippling alchemy of processed Rhodes piano, sizzling ceramics, and liquified bass flute, a rare meeting of three unique voices from the contemporary music landscape that manages to flow with the effortless inevitability of the oceanic tides.Giovanni Di Domenico, an accomplished composer and prolific collaborator who has released albums with Jim O’Rourke, Eiko Ishibashi and Akira Sakata, among many others, initiated the collaboration with Bennett after the two met at a record fair in Saint-Gilles and bonded over a shared inquisitiveness for unconventional sonic combinations. Along with Pak Yan Lau, a Belgian-born sound artist and improviser who has developed her own rich and unique sonic footprint, the trio entered the studio with little, if any, discussion beforehand, jumping right into playing without preconceived structures. The resulting recordings had a depth of sound and emotional resonance surprising even them, with finished pieces emerging from single live takes and minor edits. Bennett, known for his solo work as well as his collaborations with Christina Vantzou as CV & JAB, gives us here a taste of his bass flute in free flowing form. Unconstricted by concept, joyfully and lazily bouncing off the melodic shimmers of Di Domenico’s Rhodes, Bennett uses his flute’s pitch information to trigger long tones that emerge like rays of light piercing through low hanging clouds - moments of clarity among a clicking world of sonic stimuli. Meanwhile, Lau’s crackling and sometimes dissonant contributions on prepared piano, live hydrophone, and custom ceramic sound objects balance out the triangle, adding a sense of microcosmic intrigue that allows the music to seamlessly ebb and flow between moments of comfort and foggy uncertainty. Roxane Métayer is a french musician and artist based in Brussels. Niet gehinderd door een concept, vrolijk en lui stuiterend op de melodische glinsteringen van Di Domenico's Rhodes, gebruikt Bennett de toonhoogte-informatie van zijn fluit om lange tonen op te wekken die tevoorschijn komen als lichtstralen die door laaghangende wolken heen priemen - momenten van helderheid in een klikkende wereld van sonische prikkels. Ondertussen zorgen Lau's knisperende en soms dissonante bijdragen op geprepareerde piano, live hydrofoon en op maat gemaakte keramische geluidsobjecten voor een balans in de triangel. Ze voegen een gevoel van microkosmische intrige toe die de muziek naadloos laat ebben en vloeien tussen momenten van comfort en mistige onzekerheid.Roxane Métayer is een Franse muzikante en kunstenares uit Brussel. A recital opens with an lap-systematic unfolding of a raag (a melodic framework) sung over the drone instrument Tanpura, where the musical notes are pronounced through vowels derived from Sanskrit chanting ‘Hari Om Anant Narayan’. Compositions, mainly in Sanskrit are sung towards the later half of the concert with the taal (rhythmic framework) accompaniment provided by the Pakhawa (barrel-shaped ancient Indian drum). Predominately devotional, spiritual, and meditative, many of the texts are about human values, life philosophy, nature, and yoga. A recital culminates with upaj (improvisation) where the artists engage in spontaneous musical conversations moving away from the fixed structure of composition improvising melodically, rhythmically as well as emotionally. Dr. Sumeet Anand Pandey- Sumeet is one of India's most promising Dhrupad singers belonging to the Darbhanga tradition, nearly 350 years old family tradition of music from North Bihar in India. He received initial training for 10 years from his grandfathers Shri Birendra Mohan Pandey and Pandit Siyaram Tiwari and later advanced training from Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick under Guru-Shishya tradition for 14 years. His concerts broadcast on All India Radio (AIR) New Delhi and he is regularly invited to perform at major music festivals across India. An empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) he has also had Dhrupad recitals in Berlin, The Hague, London, Prague, Budapest, Madrid and Paris. He released his debut album titled Morning Meditation: Dhrupad of Darbhanga Tradition on Naxos World in 2020. Alexis Weisgerber (Pakhawaj accompaniment): Alexis plays both Tabla and Pakhawaj that he is studying with Shubh Maharaj (Benaras Tradition) and Mohan Shyam Sharma (Nathdwara Tradition), respectively. ********** Français ********** Quand on pense violon moderne vs violon baroque, on liste des différences : la mentonnière -elle est absente sur le violon baroque, car elle a été inventée en 1830, les cordes qui résonnent complètement différemment : en métal vs en boyau, beaucoup plus fragile ... et puis évidemment l’archet, l’archet baroque à hausse coincée et à tête de brochet vs l’archet moderne nettement plus lourd, à la cambrure inversée et avec une tension égale du talon à la pointe. Et pourtant ! Jouer un répertoire allant du milieu du 18ème au début du 20ème (J-M. Leclair, J-S. Bach et B. Bartok) avec ces 2 instruments n’est pas qu’un défi ou une gageure, c’est surtout l’occasion de prouver qu’il est possible de jouer ensemble malgré les différences, quelles qu’elles soient, et de décloisonner deux mondes qui, par purisme, se sont ignorés pendant les 50 dernières années. Les points de rencontre sont multiples et la rencontre des 2 instrument fait naître un regard ********** Nederlands ********** Dat is de vraag achter dit project. Als je denkt aan de moderne viool versus de barokviool, zie je een aantal verschillen: de kinsteun -die ontbreekt op de barokviool omdat die in 1830 werd uitgevonden, de snaren, die heel anders resoneren: metaal versus darm, dat veel kwetsbaarder is... en dan is er natuurlijk de strijkstok: de barokstrijkstok, met zijn vastzittende kikker en snoekkop, versus de moderne strijkstok, die veel zwaarder is, met omgekeerde boog en gelijke spanning van hiel tot teen. En toch! Het spelen van repertoire variërend van het midden van de 18e tot het begin van de 20e eeuw (J-M. Leclair, J-S. Bach en B. Bartok) met deze 2 instrumenten is niet alleen een uitdaging of een gageure, het is vooral een kans om te bewijzen dat het mogelijk is om samen te spelen ondanks de verschillen, Het is ook een kans om de barrières te slechten tussen twee werelden die elkaar de afgelopen 50 jaar genegeerd hebben. Er zijn veel manieren waarop de 2 instrumenten elkaar kunnen ontmoeten, en het resultaat is een nieuwe manier om naar muziek te kijken. ********** English ********** When you think of the modern violin versus the baroque violin, you notice a number of differences: the chin rest -which is absent from the baroque violin because it was invented in 1830, the strings, which resonate completely differently: metal versus gut, which is much more fragile... and then, of course, there's the bow: the Baroque bow, with its stuck frog and pike head, versus the modern bow, which is much heavier, with inverted arching and equal tension from heel to toe. Raumschmiere, Catherine Graindorge), de changements de line-up, et plus récemment, de la pandémie, des mauvais choix, du décès tragique d’un agent alors que s'amorce une collaboration fructueuse, et de la nécessité d’également écrire dans sa langue maternelle, le français. Porté par une soif de création intarissable, tout autant que le refus de se laisser piéger par une société anxiogène, ou pire, le repli sur soi-même. Guidé par le besoin de comprendre sa place dans l’univers, dans l’espace-temps, dans sa propre histoire et dans celles des êtres chers. Et enfin, habité par cette collaboration avec les incomparables chanteuses du chœur polyphonique The Mystery of The Bulgarian Voices, qui place « DELTA » sur une carte sans frontières.FFO NIN, The Mars Volta, Killing Joke, The Young Gods, Neurosis... It expresses its nature in a basso continuo passage, “sings” like a human voice, and is, still, a broad and multifaceted source of expression for today's composers. The repertoire of the cello, which over the centuries has inspired Bach and Berio, Beethoven and Sciarrino, is emblematic of unparalleled ductility and the ability to embody the most distant roles and needs. There is a very stringent and refined grammar, syntax, and logic in musical discourse, but there is also a more properly creative and transcendent dimension that makes the cello a privileged witness to Western artistic production over the past three centuries. With Claudio Pasceri (cello, concert-conference), Martin Loridan (moderation) Claudio Pasceri is one of the most appreciated Italian cellists of his generation, and has an intense concert activity. His solo repertoire includes concertos by Vivaldi to works by Schnittke, in performances with orchestras such as the Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, the Camerata Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Arpeggione Kammerorchester. A performance of his Schumann concerto was recorded by the Bayerischer Rundfunk in Munich. In the chamber music field, he collaborates with distinguished musicians, including Salvatore Accardo, Pavel Gililov, Ilya Grubert, Dora Schwarzberg, Bruno Giuranna, Rohan De Saram, Rocco Filippini, Irvine Arditti and Gilles Apap. Since 2012 he has been the cellist of NEXT- New Ensemble Xenia Turin, a string quartet specialising in contemporary repertoire. He regularly holds Masterclasses and seminars for European institutions such as Musicalta in Rouffach, Liceu University in Barcelona, Leopold Mozart Universität in Augsburg, Leeds University. He taught cello for several years at the Pinerolo Academy of Music. Claudio Pasceri is the artistic director of EstOvest Festival, a contemporary music event. Het repertoire van de cello, dat door de eeuwen heen Bach en Berio, Beethoven en Sciarrino heeft geïnspireerd, staat symbool voor een ongeëvenaarde buigzaamheid en het vermogen om de meest uiteenlopende rollen en behoeften te belichamen. Er is een zeer strenge en verfijnde grammatica, syntaxis en logica in het muzikale discours, maar er is ook een meer echt creatieve en transcendente dimensie, die de cello tot een bevoorrechte getuige maakt van de westerse artistieke productie van de afgelopen drie eeuwen. Met Claudio Pasceri (cello, concert-conferentie), Martin Loridan (moderatie) Claudio Pasceri is een van de meest gewaardeerde Italiaanse cellisten van zijn generatie en heeft een intense concertactiviteit. Zijn solorepertoire omvat concerti van Vivaldi tot werken van Schnittke, in optredens met orkesten als het Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, het Camerata Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam en het Arpeggione Kammerorchester. Een uitvoering van zijn Schumann-concert werd opgenomen door de Bayerischer Rundfunk in München. Op het gebied van kamermuziek werkt hij samen met vooraanstaande musici, waaronder Salvatore Accardo, Pavel Gililov, Ilya Grubert, Dora Schwarzberg, Bruno Giuranna, Rohan De Saram, Rocco Filippini, Irvine Arditti en Gilles Apap. Sinds 2012 is hij cellist van NEXT- New Ensemble Xenia Turin, een strijkkwartet gespecialiseerd in hedendaags repertoire. Hij geeft regelmatig masterclasses en seminars voor Europese instellingen zoals Musicalta in Rouffach, Liceu University in Barcelona, Leopold Mozart Universität in Augsburg, Leeds University. Hij doceerde enkele jaren cello aan de Pinerolo Academy of Music. Claudio Pasceri is artistiek directeur van EstOvest Festival, een evenement voor hedendaagse muziek. Het evenement richt zich op iedereen die geïnteresseerd is in het fascinerende onderwerp van hedendaagse klassieke Italiaanse muziek, niet alleen specialisten en musici.
