Join Wajdi Riahi on a journey through jazz, African and classical music. Born in Tunis in 1995, Wajdi studied Arabic music there before going on to study jazz piano with Éric Legnini at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. He was a member of his hometown's Jazz Club and the groups Darimba and North Afrika, winning several awards including the Ahmed Litaiem prize for best soloist. Today, Wajdi Riahi shines with his own trio, uniting him with drummer Pierre Hurty and bassist Basile Rahola. Their latest album, Essia (2023, Fresh Sound New Talent Records), blends tasty jazz with gnawa, stambeli and African rhythms. For his solo recital at Bozar, the pianist invites you to sample the multiple influences that underpin his highly personal style, imbued with gentleness and emotion.

Il a fait partie du Jazz Club de sa ville natale et des groupes Darimba et North Afrika. Aujourd’hui, Wajdi Riahi brille avec son propre trio qui l’unit au batteur Pierre Hurty et au bassiste Basile Rahola. Leur dernier album, Essia (2023, Fresh Sound New Talent Records), marie dans un langage jazz savoureux et musiques gnawa, stambeli et rythmes africains. Pour son récital en solo à Bozar, le pianiste vous invite à goûter aux multiples influences qui fondent son style très personnel, empreint de douceur et d’émotion.

Ga met Wajdi Riahi mee op een reis door jazz, Afrikaanse en klassieke muziek. Wajdi werd in 1995 geboren in Tunis en studeerde daar Arabische muziek voordat hij jazzpiano ging studeren bij Éric Legnini aan het conservatorium van Brussel. Hij was lid van de Jazz Club van zijn geboortestad en van de groepen Darimba en North Afrika. Tegenwoordig schittert Wajdi Riahi met zijn eigen trio, met Pierre Hurty op drums en Basile Rahola als bassist. Hun laatste album Essia (2023, Fresh Sound New Talent Records) mengt jazz met gnawa, stambeli en Afrikaanse ritmes. Voor zijn solorecital in Bozar nodigt de pianist je uit om te proeven van de vele invloeden die ten grondslag liggen aan zijn zeer persoonlijke stijl, doordrenkt van zachtheid en emotie.
