Celmaca

Celmaca is a name in Nahuatl, one of the Mexican languages ​​still spoken to this day, which means to entertain, to provide pleasure.

Invitation to party and travel, “Cantos bebida y muerte”, their second album is inspired by the traditions and rituals of Latin America which contrast with a world in constant acceleration.

This sung repertoire is accompanied by rhythms and string instruments, rich in different timbres, which strive to make ancient traditions shine. It calls to mind the Day of the Dead in Mexico which is supported by joyful music but also the “Mezcal”, this fiery and ancestral water, made from the agave in Mexico, well known for healing souls in pain, loosening tongues and making happy revelers sing. It talks about singing at work, which gives dedication and promotes performance, thus deceiving boredom and suffering; or singing “Coplas a la pilandera” evoking joy and inviting to dance.

From land to sea, this collection also includes peteneras (a musical genre that is part of the Mexican huasteca repertoire) populated by sirens, an eroticized mythological figure, captivating and with an enchanting voice, who have special relationships with men. With the “Petenera del emigrante”, the unfortunate man calls for help from this Lady of the Waters. Celmaca est un nom en nahuatl, l’une des langues mexicaines encore parlée à ce jour, qui signifie divertir, procurer du plaisir. Invitation à la fête et au voyage, « Cantos bebida y muerte », le deuxième album du groupe s’inspire des traditions et rituels d’Amérique latine qui contrastent avec un monde en constante accélération. Ce répertoire chanté s’accompagne de rythmes et d’instruments à cordes, riches de différents timbres, qui s’appliquent à faire vibrer des traditions millénaires. Il évoque la Fête des Morts au Mexique qui s’accompagne de musiques réjouissantes mais aussi le « Mezcal », cette eau ardente et ancestrale, provenant de l’agave au Mexique, réputée pour soigner les âmes en peine, délier les langues et faire chanter les joyeux fêtards. Il aborde le chant au travail, qui donne du cœur à l’ouvrage et favorise le rendement, trompant ainsi l’ennui et la souffrance ou le chant de « Coplas a la pilandera » évoquant l’allégresse et invitant au jeu et à la danse. De la terre à la mer, ce recueil comprend aussi des peteneras (genre musical qui fait partie du répertoire de la huasteca mexicaine) peuplés de sirènes , figure mythologique érotisée, captivante et à la voix enchanteresse, qui entretiennent des relations particulière avec les hommes. Als je het in het Nahuatl, een van de inheemse Mexicaanse talen, hebt over mensen plezieren, dan gebruikt je het woord Celmaca. Het mag dan ook niet verwonderen dat “Cantos bebida y muerte”, het tweede album van de band uitnodigt om te feesten en te reizen. Ze lieten zich inspireren door de tradities en rituelen van Latijns-Amerika die in schril contrast staan met de jachtige westerse wereld.
Ze begeleiden de liederen op een veelheid aan percussie en snaarinstrumenten, elk met hun eigen timbre, die eeuwenoude tradities oproepen. Je hoort echo’s van de Dia de Muertos (Allerheiligen/Allerzielen) in Mexico, die steevast wordt begeleid door feestelijke muziek, of je proeft de “Mezcal”, het voorouderlijke vuurwater, afkomstig van de agave in Mexico dat er zich op beroept de zielen van hun pijn te kunnen genezen, tongen los te maken en iedereen te doen zingen.
