Omschrijving: Op woensdag 9 april vertonen we in samenwerking met de Universiteit Utrecht de film Soundtrack to a Coup d’État. Deze indrukwekkende documentaire laat zien hoe muziek, politiek en macht samenkwamen in het Congo van de jaren ‘60.
Met jazzlegendes als Louis Armstrong en Nina Simone als onverwachte hoofdrolspelers, onderzoekt de film hoe de CIA muziek gebruikte om Amerika’s imago op te poetsen, terwijl Patrice Lumumba streed voor een vrij en onafhankelijk Congo. Was muziek een kracht voor verandering, of een rookgordijn voor politieke spelletjes?
