Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis

Once again, Bozar is proud to present the most famous big band in the world: the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The New York ensemble has been the standard-bearer for big band repertoire for many years, playing pieces by legends such as Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Ornette Coleman as well as new commissions. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra stands for a combination of authenticity and creativity, celebratory tradition and devotion to excellence. These values also suit the artistic director, Wynton Marsalis, down to the ground. The acclaimed trumpet player and composer has received no fewer than nine Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize for Music. Since the eighties, he has embodied everything that American traditional jazz stands for. 
Wynton Marsalis honours Bozar with his presence on two occasions. On 28 March, he takes to the stage with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Belgian National Orchestra for his Fourth Symphony (The Jungle) and his Violin Concerto in D major, performed for the first time in Belgium by Nicola Benedetti.
Extend your experience
After the concert, head to Terarken for an exclusive jam session, open to all ticket holders for free. The session will kick off with a 30-minute performance by the Frank Vaganée Trio, followed by young talents invited by the artist. For the occasion, the Palais will remain open until 1:00 am. Don’t miss this chance to extend the night with music and improvisation!

Cet ensemble new-yorkais est depuis longtemps un porte-drapeau du répertoire pour big band, interprétant des morceaux de légendes telles que Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk et Ornette Coleman, ainsi que de nouvelles commandes. Le Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra représente un mélange d'authenticité et de créativité, de tradition festive et d'engagement en faveur de l'excellence. Ces valeurs sont également celles de son directeur artistique, Wynton Marsalis. Le trompettiste et compositeur de renom a remporté pas moins de neuf Grammy Awards et un Prix Pulitzer. Depuis les années 1980, il incarne tout ce que le jazz traditionnel américain représente. 
Wynton Marsalis honore Bozar de sa présence à deux reprises. Le 28 mars, retrouvez-le sur scène avec le Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra et le Belgian National Orchestra pour sa Quatrième symphonie (The Jungle) et son Concerto pour violon en ré majeur, interprété pour la première fois en Belgique par Nicola Benedetti.

La jam session débutera après le live avec une performance de 30 minutes du Frank Vaganée Trio, avant de laisser place à de jeunes talents invités par l’artiste. Trots presenteert Bozar opnieuw de beroemdste bigband ter wereld: het Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Het New Yorkse ensemble is al jaren een vaandeldrager voor het big bandrepertoire en speelt zowel stukken van legendes als Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk en Ornette Coleman als nieuwe opdrachten. Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra staat voor een mix van authenticiteit en creativiteit, feestelijke traditie en toewijding aan uitmuntendheid. Waarden die ook hun artistiek leider Wynton Marsalis op het lijf zijn geschreven. De gelauwerde trompettist en componist verzilverde niet minder dan negen Grammy Awards en een Pulitzer Prize for Music en belichaamt sinds de jaren ’80 alles waar de Amerikaanse traditionele jazz voor staat. 
Wynton Marsalis vereert Bozar met zijn aanwezigheid bij twee gelegenheden. Op 28 maart staat hij op het podium met het Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra en het Belgian National Orchestra voor zijn Vierde Symfonie (The Jungle) en zijn Vioolconcerto in D groot, voor het eerst in België uitgevoerd door Nicola Benedetti.

Deze sessie zal na het concert beginnen met een korte set (30 min) door het Frank Vaganée Trio, gevolgd door jonge talenten uitgenodigd door de artiest. Het Paleis blijft speciaal voor dit evenement open tot 1u. Mis deze kans niet om de nacht muzikaal en improviserend voort te zetten!
