Dona' Gillon & Ellen Meers
Description
Dona' Gillon, a Belgian artist born in 1978, has an intuitive sensibility and a playful approach. Her works, vibrant with colour and life, create an immersive atmosphere that invites viewers to take the time to travel between dream and reality.
Through her technique of superimposing layers of paint and collage, Dona' highlights the relationship between space and time. The collage becomes a symbol of connection, a bridge between worlds, maintaining a subtle balance between the realities it assembles. This relationship between different levels brings a spiritual dimension to her work.
Dona' Gillon: "For the exhibition at the Queens house of the arts, I will be orienting my work in dialogue with the unique setting of this nineteenth-century mansion. By questioning the way in which time sedimented memories on the walls, I will transpose each crack, each motif of old wallpaper into a silent archive to reveal its history."
The pictorial material will be used to evoke memory and recollection in relation to the present, while at the same time slipping in a few humorous winks. I particularly like the idea that the viewer can happily discover that painting is also poetry.
