Description
Dear Sara by Sara Boumkwo
In Dear Sara, Sara Boumkwo revisits her childhood dream of becoming a princess, transforming this personal memory into a powerful exploration of beauty standards and representation. Through a performative intervention in Brussels’ Matongé, a hub of African beauty culture, she emerges as her own version of royalty. The video work weaves together themes of childhood aspirations, Western beauty ideals, and self-discovery, while examining the external gaze placed upon women of color.
Sara Boumkwo is a Belgian-Cameroonian visual artist who recently graduated in Textile Design from LUCA School of Arts. Working primarily with textiles, she creates works that explore the intricate layers of identity, belonging, and cultural intersection that shape her Afro-European experience.
