We can hardly imagine our concert halls without the Dutch violinist Janine Jansen. She is back in the 2024-2025 season with an intimate programme: violin sonatas by composers associated with the Schumanns. Robert Schumann’s Violin Sonata No. 1 begins “with passionate expression”, followed here by Violin Sonatas No. 2 and 3 by his younger counterpart, Johannes Brahms. Clara Schumann flourished most between these two men, both in her life and her work as a composer. Her Three Romances marked the end of a break in composing that had lasted several years. Yet her appetite for her work would prove short-lived. Her husband Robert attempted suicide a year later and was institutionalised. The memory of the Schumann-Brahms triad lives on in Jansen’s exuberant violin playing.

La violoniste néerlandaise Janine Jansen est devenue une incontournable de nos salles de concert. En 2024-2025, elle revient avec un programme intimiste consacré à des sonates pour violon du cercle de Schumann. La Première Sonate pour violon de Robert Schumann, sous-titrée «?Avec une expression passionnée?», en donne le coup d'envoi, suivie des Deuxième et Troisième Sonates pour violon du jeune Johannes Brahms. Entre ces deux messieurs brille Clara Schumann, comme elle l'a fait de son vivant. Avec les Trois Romances pour violon, elle rompt une pause de plusieurs années dans la composition. Son enthousiasme est de courte durée, car un an plus tard, son mari Robert fait une tentative de suicide et est interné dans un hôpital psychiatrique. Le souvenir de la triade Schumann-Brahms se poursuit dans le jeu de violon pétillant de Jansen.

De Nederlandse violiste Janine Jansen is nauwelijks nog weg de denken uit onze concertzaal. In het seizoen 2024-2025 komt ze terug met een intiem programma: vioolsonates uit de kring van de Schumanns. Met het opschrift “Met gepassioneerde expressie” bijt Robert Schumanns Eerste vioolsonate de spits af, gevolgd door de Tweede en Derde vioolsonate van de jongere Johannes Brahms. Tussen deze twee heren floreert Clara Schumann het meest, net zoals tijdens haar leven. Met de Drie Romances voor viool doorbrak ze een jarenlange componeerpauze. Haar werklust is van korte duur. Een jaar later doet haar man Robert een zelfmoordpoging en laat hij zich opnemen in een psychiatrie. De herinnering aan de Schumann-Brahms-triarchie leeft op dankzij Jansens dartelend vioolspel.
