Theatre of Dreams

With his firmly rooted, vibrant dance that is grounded and explosive in equal measure, the choreographer has often staged bodies in conflict, offering up a battle in a world of hostile contours. In this creation it is the uneasy zone of dreams that provides the playground for a group of dancers beset by their fantasies in a theatre of moving shadows. The piece progresses with an exploration of the in-between territory between fantasy and reality, between awakened consciousness and dreams, deploying the whole range of a dance of subtle nuances. Moved by these contrasts that steer the movement with great power, the talented dancers take us through states reflecting the complexity of the purely human condition. Hofesh Shechter deepens his writing with a hypnotic choreographic flow, a living material coming to us like an electric current that is sure to awaken our senses.

Une danse qui pulse sur un tempo martelé, une écriture fluide, une grande expressivité des corps qui semblent en matière élastique font la signature du chorégraphe Hofesh Shechter, actif depuis plus d’une vingtaine d’années au sein de la compagnie qu’il a établie à Londres. Nous voici invité·e·s dans un nouveau voyage onirique énergisant, où le repos n’est pas certain mais la poésie sauvage.Avec sa danse ancrée et vivace, à la fois terrienne et explosive, le chorégraphe a souvent mis en scène des corps en lutte, livrant un combat dans un monde aux contours hostiles. Ici, c’est la zone trouble des rêves qui devient le terrain de jeu d’une création pour un groupe de danseur·euse·s en proie à leurs chimères, dans un théâtre d’ombres mouvantes. La pièce avance comme l’exploration d’un territoire de l’entre-deux, entre fantasmes et réalité, conscience éveillée et songes, pour déployer la palette d’une danse aux nuances subtiles. Mu·e·s par ces contrastes qui guident le mouvement avec une grande force, les danseur·euse·s virtuoses nous font traverser des états qui reflètent la complexité d’une condition toute humaine. Met zijn stevig verankerde en levendige dans, zowel aards als explosief, ensceneert de choreograaf vaak worstelende lichamen, in gevecht met een wereld met donkere contouren. Hier wordt het duistere gebied van dromen het speelterrein voor een groep dansers die ten prooi vallen aan hun hersenschimmen in een theater van bewegende schaduwen. Het stuk beweegt zich voort als een verkenning van een schemerzone, tussen fantasie en werkelijkheid, ontwaken en dromen, en ontvouwt het palet van een subtiele, genuanceerde dansstijl. Gedreven door deze contrasten die de beweging met grote kracht stuwen, nemen de virtuoze dansers ons mee doorheen situaties die de complexiteit van de menselijke conditie weerspiegelen. Hofesh Shechter ontwikkelt hier verder zijn hypnotiserende choreografische stijl, een elektriserend levend materiaal dat al onze zintuigen wakker schudt.
