Wat betekent het om een verhaal te vertellen door de ogen van vrouwen? Through Her Eyes: The female gaze in German Cinema is een filmreeks samengesteld door het Goethe-Institut Nederland. Over een periode van vijf maanden presenteren we een selectie films die inzicht geven in het filmwerk van vrouwen, vanuit vrouwelijke perspectieven, met vrouwelijke stemmen en de wil om het patriarchaat een halt toe te roepen.

Clara heeft het gered. Weg uit de Oost-Duitse provincies leidt ze een onafhankelijk leven als docente in Berlijn en promoveert ze in de filosofie. Tussen haar professionele ambities, een affaire met een van haar studenten en de veeleisende vriendschap met haar gepromoveerde moeder Margot is er weinig tijd voor familie. Wanneer Clara met haar vijftienjarige dochter terug naar huis gaat voor de zestigste verjaardag van haar moeder Inge, wordt ze geconfronteerd met haar ideaal van een vrij, zelfbepaald leven. Hoe hoog is de prijs die ze daarvoor moet betalen?

Lerares Rachel (Virginie Efira) tikt de veertig aan als ze smoorverliefd wordt op Ali, die ze tijdens een gitaarles leert kennen. Al snel raakt ze ook verknocht aan zijn vierjarige dochter Leila en krijgt ze ook te maken met de moeder (Chiara Mastroianni) van het meisje. In deze nieuwe situatie ervaart Rachel niet alleen moedergevoelens voor Leila en alle risico’s die het houden van andermans kinderen met zich mee brengen, maar begint ze ook haar eigen kinderwens te herontdekken. Regisseur Rebecca Zlotowski (‘Un fille facil’, ‘Grand Central’) baseerde zich deels op haar eigen ervaringen en onderzoekt met ‘Les enfants des autres’ de vele verschillende vormen die ouderschap kunnen aannemen. De film werd geselecteerd voor de filmfestivals van Venetië en Toronto in 2022.

Een romantische komedie? Ja, dat kan, jij hebt invloed op de programmering! Elke maandag houdt café Domkop filmavond, onder de noemer Cult Noir, en er worden ook verzoekjes aangenomen! Eigenaar Willie is waus van film en wil op maandagavonden graag met wat anderen een mooie film kijken, die emotie bij je oproept en waar over na te praten valt. Eigenaar Noordin van Kippig vond het zo’n leuk idee, speciaal hiervoor besloot ie op maandag zijn deuren te openen. Domkop opent de deuren om 18.30u, de film begint om 20.30u. Op de keukendeur staat het programma, achter de bar ligt een boekje met filmtitels. Kruis aan wat je wil zien, de populairste programmeren we en zit jouw favoriete film er niet bij? Schrijf ‘m op, Domkop gaat ‘m voor je zoeken!
