No one flees for fun. Ali is 12 years old when he leaves Somalia. He travels the
dangerous road from the Horn of Africa to the heart of Europe. Along the way,
friendships are made despite the hardships and hope is found amidst the horror.
Ali has to cross several countries, a desert and the Mediterranean along with
hundreds of migrants seeking a better future. He arrives at the Brussels South
railway station in 2019, alone, without knowing a word of French or Dutch. He is
14 years old …
This incredible epic is the true story of Ali Abdi Omar, adapted for the opera
in collaboration with Ali himself. This moving creation reconstructs all the
stages of his journey. A sensory experience where electronic music, voice,
string and wind instruments, percussion and dance pay a vibrant tribute to the
resilience of a young boy forced, like so many others, to leave his family and
home in order to survive.

overleven.

Verdi: Messa da Requiem
Description
********** English **********
When the opera genius Giuseppe Verdi suddenly presented his audience with a requiem, it came to everyone as a great surprise. His monumental Messa da Requiem, therefore, does not simply belong in the traditional line-up of requiem masses. A religious sceptic, Verdi also speaks the language of theatre rather than that of the church in this work. Yet, the result is Verdi pur sang: the Dies Irae and Rex Tremendae are shimmering chunks of energy, the four soloists deliver some intimate passages, and the entire work slowly fades away in a tone of abject despair. Even in his operas, Verdi never traversed such a broad emotional spectrum in so few pages. Philippe Herreweghe allows choir and orchestra to shine in one of the great favourites of the choral repertoire.
********** Nederlands **********

Het concert Be A He(a)ro was een eerbetoon aan Peter De
In Bozar komen
Roberto Grattieri. Toegang is gratis.

Commissioned by Trinity Wall Street as part of their “Mass Re-Imaginings”
Project, Mass for the Endangered is a hymn for the voiceless and the discounted,
a requiem for the not-yet-gone. The six-movement piece appeals for parity,
compassion, and protection, from a mindset—a malignance or apathy—that threatens
to destroy the planet we all are meant to share.
The intense parts of the Mass are interspersed with brief piano interludes,
providing moments for reflection and contemplation: how will our present
generation ensure a habitable planet for the next? What steps are we taking
today to create a sustainable future for our planet, ensuring the well-being of
our children and grandchildren?
The Vlaams Radiokoor presents this contemporary mass in honour of Earth Day,
calling not only for compassion and protection through music but also
emphasising the need for heightened awareness, urgency, and, most importantly,
action.

In Mass for the Endangered combineert Sarah Kirkland Snider fragmenten van de

jazz musician’s singer.” – James Morrison Multi-Instrumentalist (AU) For these
intimate concerts, British/Australian jazz vocalist Hetty Kate has invited
celebrated musicians, pianist Maxime Moyaerts and bassist Victor Foulon to join
her. As the trio explores classics and curiosities from the swing, cool jazz and
bop eras you’ll discover the joys of the jazz trio, a simplicity allowing each
musician, and importantly, each song to shine. “Like Peggy Lee on a Vespa” Marc
Myers, Jazzwax Magazine (USA) Described as “the real deal” and “one of the best
swing singers on the scene today”, jazz singer Hetty Kate has been pursuing an
impressive international career for over a decade. From intimate clubs to the
most prestigious stages such as The Sydney Opera House, Hetty’s career has taken
her all over the world, from New Zealand to New York. With her clear voice and
remarkable intonation, reminiscent of the singers of the 1950s, Hetty Kate
swings the beautiful songs of the American Songbook – from Gershwin to Dameron,
from swing to bop. You’ll notice that Hetty “honors the composer” by staying
true to the message and melody of his composition, and uses improvisation in a
way that never interferes with the lyrics. It is this rare quality and a
compelling ease on stage that has attracted the attention of musicians and
audiences the world over. Over the course of her career, Hetty has released ten
critically acclaimed albums and performed at many festivals including the New
York Winter Jazz Festival (USA), the Sapporo Jazz Festival (Japan), the Prague
Proms (Czech Republic), the Melbourne, Sydney and Perth International Jazz
Festivals (Australia), the Cavell Leitch International Jazz Festival (New

As recently as November, Christian Tetzlaff was soloing alongside the Belgian
National Orchestra in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto in D minor, Op.?47. Now he
comes with his prestigious quartet, hailed by the New York Times for its
“dramatic, energetic playing of clean intensity”, and they play Sibelius’s
string quartet, Voces intimae. The quartet completes the programme with
Mendelssohn’s Quartet No.?2 in A minor, Op.?13. He composed the work after
hearing that his great inspiration – Beethoven – had died. Through a
Beethovenian writing, the then 18-year-old composer had already managed to give
the audience a glimpse of the airy timbres of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
