********** English ********** The music of Ali is the result of a whole new approach to opera composition. In their score, Grey Filastine, Walid Ben Selim and Brent Arnold combine the propulsive power of electro beats and live percussion with the nuance of an orchestral sound and the raw, direct emotion of the human voice. It is music at the crossroads of different styles, influences and modes, able to express the most diverse landscapes and emotional states of Ali’s journey. A week before opening night, we welcome the three composers for an accessible introductory talk at the KVS TOP. They will introduce you to the world of contemporary opera composition, where the combination of digital software, pre-recorded soundscapes and live music offers limitless possibilities. The evening will end with a convivial reception in the KVS Bar. ********** Français ********** Ali n’est pas seulement une histoire fascinante : le projet propose aussi une nouvelle approche de l’opéra. En partant d’échantillons de travail de musique électronique et de voix, des expérimentations ont été réalisées sur un logiciel numérique avant la création d’une partition orchestrale.  Comment Grey Filastine, Walid Ben Selim et Brent Arnold ont-ils collaboré ensemble ? Comment ont-ils fusionné leurs différents styles musicaux, leurs différentes influences et méthodes de travail pour aboutir à une seule œuvre ? Comment ont-ils trouvé les sonorités idéales pour représenter chaque étape du voyage d’Ali ? Afin de répondre à ces questions, nous accueillerons l’équipe de composition au grand complet ! Lors de cette rencontre, au Studio KVS TOP, les trois compositeurs vous dévoileront tous les secrets de fabrication de ce nouvel opéra. La soirée se clôturera par une réception conviviale au KVS Bar. ********** Nederlands ********** Ali vertrekt niet alleen van een navrant, waargebeurd levensverhaal, maar ook van een heel nieuwe benadering van operacompositie. De partituur van Grey Filastine, Walid Ben Selim en Brent Arnold combineert de stuwende kracht van electrobeats en live-percussie met de nuance van een orkestrale sound en de rauwe, directe emotie van de menselijke stem. Het is muziek op het kruispunt van verschillende stijlen, invloeden en procédes, in staat om de meest diverse landschappen en gevoelstoestanden van Ali’s tocht te verklanken. Een week voor de première ontvangen we de drie componisten in de KVS TOP voor een toegankelijke ‘talk’ over hun partituur en de schier eindeloze mogelijkheden om authentieke livemuziek te verrijken via digitale software en vooraf opgenomen soundscapes. De avond wordt afgesloten met een gezellige receptie in de KVS Bar.

Named after Hans Krása's opera performed by children in the Theresienstadt concentration camp, the festival aims to celebrate the remarkable artistic achievements in adversity and preserve their stories through music and the arts. ********** Français ********** Fondé par Alexandra Raikhlina en janvier 2016, le Brundibár Arts Festival est le premier événement annuel du Royaume-Uni à honorer la musique et les arts de l'Holocauste. Nommé d'après l'opéra de Hans Krása interprété par les enfants du camp de concentration de Theresienstadt, le festival vise à célébrer les remarquables réalisations artistiques dans l'adversité et à préserver leurs histoires à travers la musique et les arts. ********** Nederlands ********** Het Brundibár Arts Festival werd in januari 2016 opgericht door Alexandra Raikhlina en is het eerste jaarlijkse evenement in het Verenigd Koninkrijk ter ere van de muziek en kunst van de Holocaust. ********** English ********** No one flees for fun. Ali is 12 years old when he leaves Somalia. He travels the dangerous road from the Horn of Africa to the heart of Europe. Along the way, friendships are made despite the hardships and hope is found amidst the horror. Ali has to cross several countries, a desert and the Mediterranean along with hundreds of migrants seeking a better future. He arrives at the Brussels South railway station in 2019, alone, without knowing a word of French or Dutch. He is 14 years old …   This incredible epic is the true story of Ali Abdi Omar, adapted for the opera in collaboration with Ali himself. This moving creation reconstructs all the stages of his journey. A sensory experience where electronic music, voice, string and wind instruments, percussion and dance pay a vibrant tribute to the resilience of a young boy forced, like so many others, to leave his family and home in order to survive.  This production is part of TROIKA DIVERSITY ********** Français ********** Nul ne fuit par plaisir. Ali a douze ans quand il quitte la Somalie. Il emprunte la dangereuse route qui mène de la Corne de l’Afrique au cœur de l’Europe. En chemin, des amitiés se lient malgré les épreuves, l’espoir côtoie l’horreur. Il lui faut traverser plusieurs pays, un désert et la Méditerranée, au milieu de centaines de migrants en quête d’un avenir meilleur. Quand il arrive, seul, à la gare de Bruxelles-Midi en 2019, ne connaissant pas un mot de français ni de néerlandais, il a quatorze ans…   Cette épopée est l’histoire vraie d’Ali Abdi Omar, adaptée en opéra par les compositeurs Grey Filastine, Walid Ben Selim et Brent Arnold, et par le metteur en scène Ricard Soler Mallol. Réalisée en collaboration avec Ali lui-même, cette création reconstruit avec émotion toutes les étapes de son voyage. Une expérience sensorielle où musique électronique, voix, instruments à cordes et à vents, percussions et danse rendent un vibrant hommage à la résilience d’un jeune garçon forcé, comme tant d’autres, de quitter sa famille et son foyer pour survivre.  Cette production fait partie de TROIKA DIVERSITY ********** Nederlands ********** Niemand slaat voor zijn plezier op de vlucht. Ali is twaalf als hij uit Somalië vertrekt en de gevaarlijke reis van de Hoorn van Afrika tot hartje Europa aanvat. Hij doorkruist een hele reeks landen, de woestijn en de Middellandse Zee, tussen honderden migranten die ook op zoek zijn naar een betere toekomst. Onderweg smeedt hij, ondanks de beproevingen, vriendschappen en vindt hij te midden van de verschrikking ook hoop. Hij komt in 2019 aan in het station Brussel-Zuid, helemaal alleen, zonder een woord Frans of Nederlands te kunnen. Hij is dan veertien... Het waargebeurde verhaal van Ali Abdi Omar komt nu tot leven in een nieuwe opera, gecreëerd in nauwe samenwerking met Ali zelf. Een zintuiglijke ervaring waarin elektronische muziek, stem, snaar- en blaasinstrumenten, percussie en dans een aangrijpend eerbetoon brengen aan de veerkracht van een tiener die, zoals zovele lotgenoten, zijn familie en zijn thuis moest achterlaten om te overleven. The shocking confrontation with the ghosts of her predecessor and a certain Peter Quint soon makes it clear to her why. And are you really seeing what’s before your eyes?  Drawing on Henry James’s intriguing ghost story, Benjamin Britten composed a psychological thriller in chamber opera format with The Turn of the Screw. In de namiddag leren we zelf henna tattoos maken. Mona Rian deelt haar kennis met jou en laat je ook zelf experimenteren. Mocht dat niet goed lukken, niet getreurd, op het eind trakteert de maestro herself jou op een professionele henna- tattoo.

********** Nederlands ********** Train World organiseert in 2024 weer twee prikkelarme dagen. Eén op woensdag 17 april en de andere op 2 oktober. Op deze dagen voorzien wij aangepaste activiteiten in een aangepast museum. Wat is een “prikkelarme dag”? Het is een dag die een museumbezoek mogelijk maakt in een rustige en aangepaste omgeving. De prikkelarme dag is er voor zij die het graag wat rustiger hebben. Om een comfortabel bezoek voor iedereen te garanderen, past het museum zijn scenografie aan. De belichting wordt aangepast en de geluiden worden uitgezet. In het museum richten we rustige hoekjes in. Een aangepast plan toont je de bijzonderheden van elke ruimte van het museum aan de hand van een kleurencode. De rustigste plekken zijn in het lichtgeel, de meest prikkelende in het donkerrood. ********** Français ********** Train World est fier d’organiser deux journées à faible stimuli en 2024. mercredi 17 avril et l'autre le 2 octobre. Ces jours-là nous organisons des activités adaptées dans un musée adapté. Qu’est-ce qu’une « journée à faible stimuli » ? C’est une journée qui permet une visite dans un cadre calme et adapté. La journée à faible stimulus est destinée aux visiteurs souhaitant une atmosphère de visite plus calme. Afin de garantir une visite confortable pour tous.tes, le musée module sa scénographie. Les lumières sont adaptées et les sons sont éteints. Des coins calmes sont disposés dans le musée. Un plan adapté vous présente les spécificités de chaque salle du musée grâce à un code couleur. Les endroits les plus calmes apparaissent en jaune pâle et les plus stimulants en rouge foncé. ********** English ********** Train World is proud to host two low-stimulus days in 2024. One on Wednesday April 17 and the other on October 2. On these days we organize adapted activities in an adapted museum. What is a 'low-stimulus day'? It is a day that allows for a museum visit in a quiet and adapted environment. The low-stimulus day is for those who like it a bit quieter. In order to ensure a comfortable visit for everyone, the museum is adjusting its scenography. The lighting is adjusted and sounds are turned off. We arrange for some quiet spaces in the museum. A tailored plan shows you the specifics of each room in the museum using a colour code. The quietest spots are in light yellow; the most stimulating in dark red.
