How are memories retained? And what does it mean when they start to fade?
In HOLDERS, choreographer Francesca Chiodi Latini uses movement and textiles as
metaphors for the elusive processes of memory. Together with four older
performers and two musicians, she creates a visual and moving exchange across
generations, in which archetypes such as parent/child, teacher/student and
spectator/performer are slowly erased. Francesca Chiodi Latini is a performer
and choreographer. In 2017 she obtained a bachelor's degree in dance from the
Antwerp Conservatory and from 2019 to 2022 she was an artist in residence at
wpZimmer, where she created JARDIN POILU. In 2025 she will premiere the new
performance HOLDERS. As a performer, Francesca has worked with Lisbeth Gruwez,
Virgilio Sieni, Marcelo Evelin and Corinne Lanselle. She is also active as a
teacher of Iyengar Yoga.

spectateur·rice/performeur·euse s’effacent lentement.

verdwijnen. Francesca Chiodi Latini is performer en choreografe. In 2017

Welcome to the table. Today on the menu: a vegan meal with a side dish of
alternatives for care and family. Since the rise of industrialization and
capitalism, the nuclear family has been regarded as the pre-eminent financially
viable social unit. But what are possible alternatives? In the social art
project Tafelen, Anna Schlooz investigates different forms of family formation

At Bozar’s request, Paul Van Nevel put together a programme that reflects the
reputation and charisma of our polyphonists to the farthest corners of Europe.
The concert’s works have three things in common: all composers were born in an
area that is now Belgium, spent a crucial part of their lives abroad, and excel
in musical originality. The result is a beautiful polyphonic colour palette that
includes lesser-known works by Antwerp-based Arnold Van Eynde and Ghent-based
Theodoricus Gerarde to masters such as Lassus, De Monte, and Dufay. Let the
Huelgas Ensemble’s incredible perfection of performance catapult you back to the
heyday of polyphony.

The artist duo Pablo Lilienfeld and Federico Vladimir delve into the family
history of their mothers, who are named Monica. Both Monicas were born in
Argentina in the 1950s as daughters of war refugees and later moved to Spain.
One was an ecofeminist painter, the other a muse and nude model for her
husband's photos. The paintings and photographs form the starting point for a
speculative telenovela in which their diasporic genealogies are
unravelled. Musician and choreographer Pablo Lilienfeld and visual
artist Federico Vladimir have shared an artistic practice since 2014. Their work
is intimately intertwined with their relationship and often starts from intimacy
to question prevailing narratives about collectivity. In their performances,
videos and installations they work together with family, friends, lovers,
viruses, ghosts and other companions. Their work has been presented at festivals
such as Copenhagen Contemporary, Santarcangelo, Bâtard, Belluard and Sâlmon.

The Belgian pianist Florian Noack enjoys bringing lesser-known works to
audiences and has been widely acclaimed for doing so. In this concert, he
performs the First Piano Concerto by Russian composer Nikolai Medtner, a
contemporary and friend of Rachmaninov. Tchaikovsky wrote his Fifth Symphony in
1888, at the height of his artistic powers. One theme – a kind of 'idée fixe'
reminiscent of Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique – appears in all four movements.
Many interpret this theme as fate, but “whereas fate knocks at the door in
Beethoven's Fifth Symphony”, one reviewer remarked shortly after the premiere
“fate tries to escape in Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony”.

Johann Kalliwoda and Felix Mendelssohn soared to great heights as composers
during the 19th century. Each, in their unique way, bridged the gap from pure
classicism to the burgeoning ideals of romanticism, and they were both masters
of a refined musical style.
Today, Kalliwoda's name may have faded somewhat when compared to Mendelssohn's,
yet his music, too, harmoniously combines the principles of classical balance
with the energy of Romanticism. His first symphony features an opening movement
brimming with intensity, a captivating menuetto, and a robust finale dominated
by vigorous counterpoint.
If anything, an even spicier opening was what Mendelssohn, barely 15 years old,
wrote for his first symphony. It was not merely an exercise; young Felix had
already composed around 13 symphonies for a string orchestra. But only now was
he ready to introduce wind instruments and measure himself against the old
masters. Their influence is evident - you can taste a touch of Mozart in the
style and structure, the foundation of Bach's counterpoint, as well as more
contemporary elements from Weber and Beethoven. Mendelssohn was an eager and
fertile ground for all those influences, and here showed his genial poise and
discipline of lifelong classicist.
