Chaque jour du lundi au jeudi, vous trouverez au Jardin des citoyens
des concerts donnés par différents musiciens et ensembles.

Il s'agit d'une occasion unique de voir des musiciens de renommée mondiale de Bruxelles et d'ailleurs se produire dans un cadre intime en plein air. Le programme présente un mélange éclectique de styles, du classique à l'opéra, en passant par le jazz et la musique du monde, de sorte qu’il y en ait pour tous les goûts.

Les concerts sont gratuits, mais le nombre de participants est limité à 100. Veuillez
arriver à l’avance et prendre place avant le début des représentations.

En cas de mauvais temps, des mesures appropriées seront prises. Des annonces
seront faites sur la page Facebook des visites du Parlement européen aussitôt que possible.

Van maandag tot donderdag is er in de tuin van de burgers elke dag een klassiek concert gepland met diverse artiesten en ensembles.

Maak gebruik van deze unieke gelegenheid om wereldberoemde muzikanten uit Brussel en de rest van de wereld aan het werk te zien tijdens een openluchtconcertin een intiem kader. Allerlei muziekgenres komen aan bod, van klassiek tot opera,jazz en wereldmuziek, voor elk wat wils.

Concerten zijn gratis, maar de toegang is beperkt tot 100 personen. Gelieve vroeg tekomen en te zitten voor de voorstellingen beginnen.

In geval van slecht weer zullen passende regelingen worden getroff en. Aankondigingen zullen zo vroeg mogelijk worden gedaan op de Facebook-paginavan Visit European Parliament.

From Monday to Thursday, every day in the Citizens’ Garden you will find classical music performances by different musicians and ensembles.

This is a unique opportunity to see world-renowned musicians from Brussels and beyond perform in an intimate outdoor setting. The programme features an eclectic mix of styles, from classical to opera, jazz and world, so there is something for everybody to enjoy.

Concerts are free of charge however, the number of attendees will be limited to 100. Please arrive early and take a seat before the performances begin.

In case of bad weather, appropriate measures will be taken. Announcements will be made on the Visit European Parliament Facebook page as early as possible.

********** English ********** Traditional folk melodies, intricate rhythms, and innovative techniques form a rich musical foundation shared by the grandmasters Béla Bartók and György Ligeti. Enthralled by electronic music, Ligeti crafted his own unique musical language. The polyrhythms he pioneered possess intricate structures and are entirely distinct, with his piano concerto serving as a quintessential illustration. He regarded it as one of his most intricate and technically demanding compositions, while others may consider it his most provocative work. While the title of Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra may initially appear somewhat contradictory, it is indeed apt - Bartók grants each instrument group within the 100-piece orchestra its own moment in the spotlight. Like a skilled general, he reunites the troops at the piece’s conclusion, culminating in an exhilarating finale. Following its premiere in New York in 1944, Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra quickly conquered Europe, thanks to the Brussels Philharmonic's precursor, the Grand Symphony Orchestra, which performed the European premiere in 1946 in Paris. Bartók expressed particular enthusiasm for the performance: "I can hardly find the words to express my admiration for the orchestra and its conductor, Mr. André. The orchestra is among the finest in the world..." Captivé par la musique électronique, Ligeti a forgé son propre langage musical distinctif. Les polyrythmies qu'il a développées sont caractérisées par une structure complexe et une singularité absolue, son concerto pour piano en étant un exemple éminent. Lui-même le considérait comme l'une de ses compositions les plus complexes et techniquement exigeantes, et d'autres pourraient le percevoir comme l'une de ses œuvres les plus provocantes. Le concerto pour orchestre de Bartók figure à juste titre parmi les chefs-d'œuvre absolus du XXe siècle. Bien que le titre puisse sembler contradictoire, il est néanmoins justifié : Bartók offre à chaque groupe d'instruments de l'orchestre de 100 musiciens son propre moment de gloire en solo. Gefascineerd door elektronische muziek boetseerde Ligeti zijn eigen muzikale taal. De polyritmiek waar hij bij terecht kwam is dicht van structuur en volkomen eigenzinnig, met als schoolvoorbeeld zijn pianoconcerto. Zelf beschouwde hij het als een van zijn meest complexe en technisch veeleisende composities, anderen wellicht als zijn meest provocatieve compositie. Bártoks concerto voor orkest hoort terecht bij de absolute meesterwerken van de 20ste eeuw. De aanvankelijk wat tegenstrijdig lijkende titel is toch terecht - Bartók geeft elke instrumentgroep van het 100-koppige orkest een eigen solomoment in de schijnwerpers. Als een volleerd veldheer brengt hij de troepen aan het eind weer samen in een verrukkelijk opzwepend slot dat perfect past bij het onverwoestbare optimisme dat hij in Amerika aantrof. Julia Tavit, Damiën Heemskerk, Sterre Hond Welcome to our upcoming concert "6 hands | 1 piano" where we will be performing a unique program consisting of pieces for solo, four-handed and six-handed piano. In the solo pieces each pianist will showcase their virtuosity and individual expression. We will perform pieces ranging from classical to contemporary styles, even including some original pieces. Here we can truly showcase our individual backgrounds as pianists. The four handed and six-handed pieces is where those backgrounds will be brought together to create a celebration of teamwork, musicianship and creative synergy. With the four-handed pieces we are able to tell our stories together, ranging from folkdances to beautiful fairytales. The piano becomes very intimate when two pianists have a dialogue on the instrument. However, the six-handed pieces are what make this concert a must-see for everyone. Three pianist playing together behind the same instrument is something you don't get to see often. Together we will even premiere a new piece, written by us for six-handed piano. This form of performance will showcase our individual talents while working seamlessly together to produce a unique sound that will captivate your senses. Since 1987, the Malian musician has released sublime solo albums and collaborated with Björk, Ali Farka Touré and Damon Albarn. In 2008, he showcased his virtuoso yet sensitive playing with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Clark Rundell in a concert at the Barbican Centre in London. The recording of this concert was released in 2021 under the title Kôrôlen (‘ancestral’ in Bambara) and received critical acclaim. Toumani Diabaté and the Orchestre National de Lyon, conducted by Clark Rundell, will perform this programme again at Bozar. It’s an opportunity to bring together the Mandingo and European classical traditions and to recall, as Diabaté points out, that “Beethoven's music is only 250 years old, whereas Mandingo classical music has existed since the 13th century.” ********** Français ********** Toumani Diabaté est le grand ambassadeur de la kora dans le monde. ********** English ********** Young French-Spanish guitarist Thibaut Garcia made a particularly tasteful Bozar debut last season alongside Philippe Jaroussky. For this season, he takes his guitar companion Antoine Morinière to Brussels for an arrangement of Bach’s Goldberg Variations for two guitars. For this challenge, they transcribed Bach’s masterpiece together for their instruments and even had ‘twin guitars’ built to complete this repertoire. Come discover this new arrangement in the company of two of the greatest guitar virtuosos of our time. ********** Français ********** Le jeune guitariste franco-espagnol Thibaut Garcia a fait ses débuts à Bozar la saison dernière aux côtés de Philippe Jaroussky, devant un public conquis. Cette saison, il invite à Bruxelles son homologue Antoine Morinière pour vous offrir un arrangement pour deux guitares des célèbres Variations Goldberg de Bach. Mais pas n’importe quel arrangement : les deux musiciens ont transcrit ensemble le chef-d’œuvre de Bach et, pour épicer le défi, ils se sont fait construire deux guitares « jumelles ». Voor deze uitdaging transcribeerden ze samen Bachs meesterwerk voor hun instrumenten en lieten ze zelfs ‘tweelinggitaren’ bouwen om dit repertoire tot een goed einde te brengen. ********** English ********** This concert’s programme travels through the history of this instrument to back to 17th-century Italy. The Chitarra alla Spagnola, or Spanish guitar, had its origins in the Spanish tradition between the 16th and 17th centuries. Its popularity spread rapidly across Europe, transcending its status as a folk instrument. The Baroque guitar became the favourite instrument of royal courts in France and England. Italian lutenist and guitarist Giovanni Bellini puts together a particularly fine programme of works by various Italian composers. ********** Français ********** Le programme de ce concert retrace l’histoire de cet instrument jusqu’à l’Italie du XVIIe siècle. La Chitarra alla Spagnola, ou guitare espagnole, trouve ses origines dans la tradition espagnole entre les XVIe et XVIIe siècles. Sa popularité s’est rapidement étendue à toute l’Europe, dépassant ainsi son statut d’instrument populaire. La guitare baroque est devenue l’instrument favori des cours royales de France et d’Angleterre. Le luthiste et guitariste italien Giovanni Bellini propose un programme inspiré, composé d’œuvres de compositeurs italiens. ********** Nederlands ********** Het programma van dit concert reist doorheen de geschiedenis van dit instrument naar het Italië van de 17e eeuw. ********** Français ********** Diana Gonnissen-Oro, soprano lyrique et comédienne, diplômée du Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles (classe de Jules Bastin et Ludovic de San) se meut avec bonheur dans un répertoire varié qui s’étend de la musique classique à l’opérette voire la chanson. Passionnée par l’enseignement, Diana est professeure de chant en académie (Jette, Schaerbeek). Paul Gérimon est né à Dinant en Belgique. Il est engagé dès l’âge de vingt ans comme soliste au Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie où il chante pendant plus de trente années. ********** Nederlands ********** Diana Gonnissen-Oro, lyrische sopraan en actrice, is afgestudeerd aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel (klas van Jules Bastin en Ludovic de San). Haar repertoire varieert van klassieke muziek tot operette en chanson. Diana geeft ook heel graag les en is zanglerares in de academies van Jette en Schaarbeek. Paul Gérimon werd geboren in Dinant, België. Op twintigjarige leeftijd werd hij aangenomen als solist in de Koninklijke Muntschouwburg, waar hij al meer dan dertig jaar zingt. ********** English ********** Diana Gonnissen-Oro, lyric soprano and actress, is a graduate of the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles (class of Jules Bastin and Ludovic de San). At the age of twenty he was engaged as a soloist at the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie, where he is singing for over thirty years already.
