Barry’s Boptet are a quintet featuring Lewis Taylor on trumpet, Liam Byrne on
tenor saxophone and Jack Kinsella on guitar, all of whom share a love of bebop
and swing music. They perform exciting interpretations of jazz compositions and
standards from the 1940s and 1950s.

De jazzopleidingen in België zijn de laatste jaren van bijzonder hoog niveau.
Talent máak je echter niet en dat bewijst pianist Bram De Looze, die al op
piepjonge leeftijd gespot werd als één van die rasmuzikanten die de komende
decennia de klank van de Belgische jazz mee zal bepalen. De 22-jarige De Looze
woont sinds een jaar in New York, waar hij zich een weg baant tussen de
internationale top. Dat belette hem niet in zijn thuisland naarstig op zoek te
gaan naar manieren om zijn creativiteit te uiten. Parallel met het hippe
LABtrio, waarin hij vooral eigen werk presenteert, neemt hij nu ook een frisse
duik in het repertoire van grootheden als Charles Mingus en Thelonious Monk. Dat
doet hij samen met een jonge collega en een éminence grise van de Belgische
jazzscene.
De uit Nederland afkomstige bassist Jos Machtel is sinds jaar en dag verbonden
aan het internationaal gelauwerde Brussels Jazz Orchestra. In zijn rijke
carrière toerde hij de wereld rond en woonde en werkte in steden als Kansas en
Madrid. Hij speelde intussen samen met illustere grootheden als Lee Konitz,
Woody Shaw, Deborah Brown en Philip Catherine.
Drummer Matthias De Waele is wat ze noemen een laatbloeier. Alvorens muziek te
studeren behaalde hij zijn diploma Criminologische Wetenschappen. Na zijn
studies stortte hij zich op zijn muzikale carrière en ontpopte zich in een mum
van tijd tot een gedegen jazzdrummer, in de stijl van zijn grote voorbeeld
Philly Joe Jones. Naast dit trio kan je hem terug vinden bij beloftevolle jonge
groepen als Trioxide en Phd.
Gazon is a summer bar in the beautiful garden of the Kristallijn ice rink in
Ghent. Sink down into the pillows with a cocktail, find peace and quiet under
the trees or have a drink near the pond. Sun lovers can enjoy the sunshine in
one of the beach chairs. Be sure to bring the kids someday. There is a large
playground with a bouncy castle. Grown-ups can participate in numerous
activities as well: a Kubb game, pétanque and cards.
You can enjoy street food, sharing dishes and classic dishes, all prepared in
the open kitchen. Vegans and people with allergies will also definitely find
something to their liking.
Tip: twice a month, Gazon opens its doors on Sunday for a delicious buffet-style
brunch accompanied by (live) music.
Numerous events, such as bachata initiations, drag shows, workshops, theme
nights and Sunday markets with local products, are organised weekly. Consult the

Vergezel ons op deze mooie avond in het Sint-Baafshuis in Gent.
Pieter Savenberg brengt meeslepende moderne klassieke muziek op piano. Hij licht
al een tipje van de sluier op van zijn tweede album dat komende zomer
uitgebracht wordt. Pieter bereikte in 2023 een miljoen luisteraars op Spotify en
speelt nu live in Gent.
