********** English ********** After Annie Ernaux in March 2023, La Monnaie and international house of literature Passa Porta are delighted to welcome another Nobel Prize Winner in Literature, Abdulrazak Gurnah, on 8 April 2024. In novels such as Paradise, Afterlives and By the Sea, the versatile Tanzanian author managed to give a voice to all those who have been neglected by history, from colonial Africa to 1960s London. The year 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of international house of literature Passa Porta. The return of Abdulrazak Gurnah, a guest of Passa Porta in its early years, will be one of the highlights of this anniversary year. Abdulrazak Gurnah was born in 1948 in Zanzibar, Tanzania. In 1967 he fled to the UK, where he taught English and postcolonial literature at the University of Kent. His impressive and widely acclaimed oeuvre consists of essays, short stories and novels. Notable works include Paradise (1994), By the Sea (2001) and Desertion (2005). His latest novel, Afterlives (2020), is a work of historical fiction. In his work, he describes the events in his homeland and the difficulties he encountered when he arrived in English while dealing with themes such as uprootedness, migration and colonialism. When awarding him the highest literary distinction, the Nobel Prize Committee called him ‘one of the world’s most prominent postcolonial writers. He has explored, in a penetrating manner and with great compassion, the consequences of colonialism in East Africa and its effects on the lives of uprooted and migrating people’. Part of the proceeds of this evening will go to ICORN, a network of more than seventy cities around the world, including Brussels, that offer shelter to writers at risk. Auteur de Paradis, Adieu Zanzibar, Près de la mer ou Les Vies d’après, l’écrivain d’origine tanzanienne multi-primé n’a de cesse de donner une voix aux oubliés de l’histoire, de l’Afrique coloniale au Londres des sixties. En 2024, nous célébrerons les 20 ans de Passa Porta. Alors qu’il en était encore à ses débuts, le romancier tanzanien Abdulrazak Gurnah fut l’un de nos premiers invités ; son retour sera certainement l'un des temps forts de cette année anniversaire. Abdulrazak Gurnah est né en 1948 à Zanzibar, en Tanzanie. En 1967, il s'est réfugié au Royaume-Uni, où il est devenu professeur d'anglais et de littérature postcoloniale à l'université du Kent. Impressionnante et acclamée, son œuvre comprend des essais, des récits et des romans, dont quatre traduits en français aux éditions Denoël : Les Vies d’après, Paradis, Adieu Zanzibar, Près de la mer. Travaillé par le déracinement, la migration, l'appartenance, le colonialisme, chacun d’eux est un moyen de comprendre ce qui s’est passé dans son pays natal et les difficultés d’accueil vécues à son arrivée en Angleterre. En lui octroyant la plus haute distinction littéraire en 2021, le Comité du prix Nobel soulignait en Abdulrazak Gurnah "l'un des principaux écrivains postcoloniaux du monde, qui a sondé avec profondeur et compassion les conséquences de la colonisation en Afrique de l'Est et ses conséquences sur la vie des personnes déracinées et migrantes". La thématique de son œuvre est en connexion évidente avec la création de l’opéra Ali, qui conte l’histoire vraie d’un garçon qui, à douze ans, s’est aventuré sur la dangereuse route migratoire vers l’Europe. Une partie des recettes de cette soirée sera reversée à ICORN, une organisation qui héberge des auteurs en exil, à Bruxelles et dans plus de 70 autres villes de par le monde. Met romans als Paradijs, Hiernamaals en Aan zee heeft deze veelzijdige Tanzaniaanse auteur een stem weten te geven aan mensen die door de geschiedenis verwaarloosd werden, van koloniaal Afrika tot het Londen van de jaren 1960. In 2024 vieren we het twintigjarig bestaan van Passa Porta. De terugkeer van Abdulrazak Gurnah, die in onze beginjaren al eens te gast was in Brussel, moet een van de hoogtepunten worden in dit jubileumjaar. In zijn werk beschrijft hij de gebeurtenissen in zijn geboorteland en de moeilijkheden die hij ondervond toen hij in Engeland aankwam en behandelt hij thema’s als ontworteling, migratie en kolonialisme. Bij het toekennen van de hoogste literaire onderscheiding in 2021 noemde het Nobelprijscomité hem “een van ’s werelds meest vooraanstaande postkoloniale schrijvers. Hij heeft indringend en met veel compassie de gevolgen doorgrond van het kolonialisme in Oost-Afrika en de effecten daarvan op de levens van ontwortelde en migrerende mensen.” Een deel van de opbrengst van deze avond gaat naar ICORN, een organisatie die onderdak biedt aan auteurs op de vlucht, in Brussel en meer dan 70 andere steden over de hele wereld. Kan je plaasteren beelden buiten zetten? (nog eens nee!). Wacht, ik weet het: we gaan in het Museum op zoek naar kunst gemaakt met natuurlijke materialen, of kunst die over de natuur gaat, makkie! Patrick Moore was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and grew up on a diet of love, attention, and tofu. From getting crystals as a Christmas present to being certified as an energy healer at the age of six, his childhood was never the typical All-American experience. Having two moms was just the start. MAMAS’ BOY is full of stories and jokes about Patrick’s experience growing up with gay parents in the 90s. From his unconventional childhood in California to his current life in Berlin with his German wife and family, the show provides plenty of fun detours along the way!  Celui se déroulera sur 6 rendez-vous lors desquels il sera question de découpe du verre et d'assemblage par la méthode Tiffany. Les ateliers auront lieu les 13, 20, 27/3 et 3, 10, 17/4 de 14h à 17h L'atelier est animé par Henri Dupont.  Un mot sur l'artiste  Le parcours d'Henri Dupont débute, à Liège, par des études artistiques, en peinture et décoration, à l'Académie Saint-Luc. Il y a 12 ans, pour un projet, il abordait le vitrail en travaillant avec un artisan du verre. Aujourd'hui, il restaure les vitraux de toutes les époques. Son imagination et sa technique en font un spécialiste en vitraux d’art. Le vitrail est un travail en deux dimensions. La construction part d’un gabarit. Chaque élément sera coupé dans le verre et ensuite assemblé pour composer l’image. C’est un puzzle géant. Des profilés en plomb, en forme de H ou de L, dans lesquels le verre vient s’emboiter, raccordent les motifs de la structure. Le plomb étant très souple, il permet toutes les courbes possibles et imaginables. Il se coupe avec un couteau et ne se chauffe pas. Quand le vitrail est monté, il est fixé, par quelques points de soudure à chaud, aux jonctions des rainures de plomb. Ceci stabilise l’ensemble. Régulièrement, Henri Dupont transmet son savoir-faire, son art, à de futurs « vitraillistes ».
