Description

L’art peut-il libérer l’architecture de sa fonction utilitaire ? Pour répondre à cette question, la 8e édition du Festival ARTONOV nous convie du 8 au 16 octobre 2022 à treize spectacles pluridisciplinaires dans des lieux inédits. Ce festival, qui se définit comme une « agence de voyages imaginaires » et n’arrête jamais de se réinventer, nous réserve toute une série de créations et plusieurs premières : il mettra à l’honneur deux architectes vivants, dévoilera deux collections exclusives et fera la part belle aux performances circassiennes et dansées, proposées pour la plupart par des chorégraphes féminines.

De Ahmed Ayed / Collectif Illicium Création chorégraphique qui joint intime et universel, …And Nobody Else évoque la recherche d’une identité en constante transformation, une quête d’un « soi » libre dans une enveloppe étriquée. Ahmed Ayed, accompagné du chorégraphe et danseur Hamza Damra et du batteur et chanteur Timothée Philippe, explore ses questionnements identitaires, questionne la liberté d’être soi au- delà des masques qu’on s’impose. Est-ce que nous arrivons à atteindre pleinement notre identité profonde ou vivons-nous d’une série de compromis qui nous façonnent malgré nous ? Comment être nous-mêmes quand nous ne faisons que jouer des rôles que nous ne choisissons pas ? A travers le mouvement, la métamorphose constante du corps et de l’espace et la pulsation brute d’une batterie, …And Nobody Else nous emmène dans un voyage initiatique à la rencontre de différentes versions de soi-même. La danse, échappée du pli de l'instant est un déferlement de force, d’exploits en tout genre. On an empty stage with no screens or projected images, and with the help of playwright Thierry Thieû Niang, she offers us a change of register to surprise herself and us. A dance that is part of the evolution of a choreographic language carried by a body that has been around for an entire oeuvre. While playing with her own image, the dancer/choreographer summons other characters who bring a solo to the group. Past and present enter into dialogue, interact and remind us of the fragility, the beauty, but also the strength of maturity when it never stops exploring new territories. Op een lege scène, zonder scherm en zonder geprojecteerde beelden stelt ze, met de hulp van dramaturg Thierry Thieû Niang een registerwijziging voor, om zichzelf en om ons te verrassen. Een dans die kadert in de evolutie van een choreografische taal gedragen door een lichaam dat al een oeuvre lang meegaat. Spelend met haar eigen beeld voert de danseres/choreografe andere personages op die een solo brengen in groep. Vroeger en nu gaan in dialoog, komen met elkaar in aanraking en herinneren ons aan de kwetsbaarheid, de schoonheid maar ook de kracht van maturiteit wanneer onophoudelijk nieuwe territoria werden verkend. Using movement, text and textiles, she creates a colourful, visual world that simultaneously evokes the power of nature and the artificiality of our lifestyles. Can we transcend fatalism and its logical consequence in the form of ecological laxity and replace it with optimism and collective initiative? Straddling fiction and reality, Louise Baduel and Pascale Gigon mockingly turn our habits upside, rightly so. ********** English ********** Jeanne Colin began in 2017 as a dancer and performer with Ayelen Parolin, Éric Minh Cuong Castaing, Tumbleweed, Louise Vanneste... exploring the relationship between movement and the unconscious, blending disciplines and practices such as dance, hypnosis and drawing. With Abysses, the young choreographer continues this exploration by focusing on dreams and REM sleep, a state of rest in which nightmares and fear prevail. Starting from this dichotomy between reality and fiction, feeling and imagination, her piece begins in the form of a reading after which she allows the body and senses to drift towards a free, liberated dance. Met Abysses zet de jonge choreografe deze verkenning verder door zich te richten op dromen en de REMslaap, een staat van rust waarin nachtmerries en angst zegevieren. Met als uitgangspunt deze tweespalt tussen realiteit en fictie, gevoel en verbeelding vangt haar stuk aan in de vorm van een lezing waarna ze het lichaam en de zintuigen laat drijven in de richting van een vrije, bevrijde dans. Abysses speelt fysiek en metaforisch met touwen, knopen en lianen en verbindt wat verborgen en verdeeld is.

Alto Fuero is a French duo currently based in Brussels. Cartoonish sounds and spasmodic rhythms intertwined with haunting traditional folk songs, their trance-inducing music could be considered post-folk. Alto Fuero is a collaboration between painter, musician and performer Victoria Palacios (elle) and musician and performer Loto Retina (iel). Alto Fuero is music for the body and the front, always on the edge of performance. They invite you into their cavernous club. The walls bounce frenetically with the echoes of flutes, multilingual vocals and twisted basses. At the invitation of the Halles de Schaerbeek and the Botanique, the duo are forging new relationships with other musicians and other non-human entities in the Grande Halle, teaming up with a scenographer (Juliette Gelli) to create an ecosystem, a porous space in which the public and the artists can breathe together. "If there was a weirdo music contest, Alto Fuero would have won it hands down. Except that Victoria Palacios and Loto Retina aren't the type to take part in silly competitions. They're more interested in dynamiting novo dance music from morning till night, with cyber flamenco and exotic polyrhythms for a freewheeling electronic pad. Victoria catechises all over the place, alternately disturbing, reassuring or simply fascinating. She goes from lament to minimalist nursery rhyme in no time at all. As for Loto, he destructures the tempo with his home-made samples and lo-fi flute, forcing the audience to constantly invent new dances. After organising a regular show on his Mixcloud page, he launched Stroom.tv. taht has now turned into record label. Thanks to his unique mix of bizarre playlists and distinctive aesthetic. As a DJ, Nosedrip creates atmospheres like no other and leaves dancefloors gasping for breath wherever he goes.   ELHEIST Known for fusing rap with pop and industrial electronica, Elheist has quickly become one of the UK's female artists to watch. As much known for her monthly radio shows on NTS as for her eclectic music underpinned by her lively personality and unique approach, the London-based artist is considered by many to be forward-thinking in her approach. Born and raised in south-east London, Elheist's interest in music began at an early age. She spent her teenage years honing her skills in creative writing and studio production. After university, El joined a band formed by artist Klein in 2016. After participating in Portia Lewis, she began her solo career under the stage name Elheist. In 2017, she decided to talk about societal events through her first single 'See how'. Since then, Elheist has played in some of Europe's most famous venues, and her songs have been selected for the best playlists, and played on television and in adverts. DJ NIGGA FOX DJ Nigga Fox, a member of Lisbon-based band Principe Discos, made his debut with the EP 'O Meu Estilo' in 2013, establishing him on the Portuguese music scene as an avant-garde artist. Singer Kaito Winse from Burkina Faso, guardian of the ancestral tradition of the griots, surrounds himself with two explosive musicians: drummer Benjamin Chaval, passionate about machines and ‘deconstructing’ sound, and anarcho-guitarist Nico Gitto. Since their discovery in Belgium in July 2021, the group has been received with great enthusiasm, spreading their experimental trance music on stages in Europe and Canada. During this concert, Avalanche Kaito will present a brand-new composition commissioned by Bozar as part of the Let's Zing Ensemble choral singing project. De Burkinese zanger Kaito Winse, hoeder van de voorouderlijke traditie van de griotten (volksvertellers), wordt omringd door twee explosieve muzikanten: drummer Benjamin Chava, verzot op machines en ‘destructurering’ van het geluid, en de anarcho-gitarist Nico Gitto. De band werd in juli 2021 in België ontdekt en kan sindsdien op een enthousiaste aanhang rekenen. Met experimentele trancemuziek maakt hij podia in Europa en Canada onveilig. Tijdens dit concert zal Avalanche Kaito een gloednieuwe compositie presenteren, in opdracht van Bozar, als onderdeel van het Let's Zing Ensemble koorproject. Jong, oud en iedereen met twee linkervoeten is uitgenodigd om dit jaar mee te doen Je kan bijvoorbeeld meedoen met 'sylvan' van Sara Tan & Eric Bribosia. Als je kleinere kinderen hebt of de kriebels voelt om je stoffige dansschoenen uit de kast te trekken, kom dan naar Sara's workshops en je krijgt de kans om samen met ons op te treden. De tieners van het Dancing Kids Dans en Performance programma van Rosas brengen 'Mini Wave', een danswerk waarin ze moeten onderhandelen, compromissen sluiten en samenwerken terwijl ze improviseren en door rigide structuren navigeren. Briana Ashley Stuart creëert muziek met haar lichaam door middel van traditionele afro-amerikaanse stepping in 'Becoming Together'. Haar energie is aanstekelijk, je kan je niet inhouden om met je voeten te tikken of mee te klappen. Een triowerk van MaRoNes leidt je door een mediatieve reis. Met 'Listening the Trees with you Eyes wide Open' ontdekken we hoe aanraking je zorg kan bieden.

It’s just a phase Performed by Jacob Bousset, Samuele Baschieri and Rünno Tammela Choreographed by Nicolas Dang with the collaboration of the performers There are, as appears, three white cis men sitting, staring at the audience. Their behavior towards us and each other is concealed by the repetitive Piano Phase of Steve Reich. With the music reflecting the repetition and performativity of societal norms, this vicious circle both in soundscape and in social settings sees three individuals' passage through moments of violence and vulnerability. This work draws to question the notion of masculinity perpetuated through the presence of gender norms and, consequently, the state of internalised homophobia. Using a play of contradictions and observing moments of sensuality and susceptibility, as the music of Reich begins to shift in conjunction with shifting power dynamics, we begin to see an abstraction of experiences and a transformation of these norms. In Piano Phase, Steve Reich employs the compositional process of phasing or phase shifting. In unison two pianos play a loop, as one slightly accelerates, they progressively fall out of phase, creating an echo. It then becomes a new melody when the superposed loops are back in phase with a delay. It’s just a phase is a play between the 'phases’ in the musical score and the misconception of queerness as 'a phase’. > TW : sensual content, homophobia, mention of m@sturbation. Nicolas Dang A French performing arts creator based in Brussels who focuses on creating new representations and challenging norms. They use diverse artistic expressions to embody intimate and political subjects. Currently studying in P.A.R.T.S. they present their work within and outside the community.

She will sit in the middle of the room, and ask the people how many glasses she should drink. And from here, all she does is to drink that wine as she is told. why? Mashiro Tamura A dancer, choreographer, and a performance maker from Tokyo, currently based in Brussels. Her curiosity of creation centers around the narrative that a body holds on the stage and how it can influence the audience’s position. Through uncanny and cute satires, the question of power is posed, also referring to her relationship with her own culture. She also holds a strong interest in music and sound creation, which plays a vital role in the performance. Alongside her education in p.a.r.t.s., Mashiro expands her creation and personal works outside of the frame, also occasionally performing as a bassist.
