Every academic year, S.M.A.K, Ghent University, and the Curatorial Studies
program at KASK & School of Arts collaborate to organize the Curatorial Lectures
series. This year's lecture series, featuring Aline Hernández as the third
speaker, centers on the theme 'Working with Communities'.
Curators connect communities with cultural institutions. They engage with
communities, ensure accessibility, address social issues, and build trust
between different stakeholders. This year’s series ‘Working with Communities’
invites practitioners to discuss the role of curating in shaping communities and
relationships. How can curatorial work reveal power dynamics and offer
alternative social imaginaries?

Description

The Ghent University Museum (GUM) and Botanical Garden will take you on a quest
for the truth. This exhibition provides an answer to questions such as: What is
true and what isn’t? What do we really want to know? Does absolute certainty
exist? What is the role of science in this regard? Does a museum always tell the
truth?
The GUM confronts big names and young talent from the art world with exceptional
research from home and abroad and intriguing science projects in which you can
participate live. In the Wunderkammer of TRUTH, you (might) learn all about the
truth. The exhibition is definitely worth a visit.
The festival "Sorry, not sorry" always takes place in a different neighbourhood
outside the city centre. This time around it takes place in the Ghent
neighbourhood Moscou-Vogelhoek-Flora. At the heart of the festival, you can find
the industrial site of the former weaving and spinning mill De Porre.
Street art in the broadest sense of the word is at the centre of the festival.
As always, the focus is on creative ‘underground’ and ‘out of the box’ art. The
festival puts young artists and organisations in the spotlight and breaks down
the walls between mainstream artists and street artists.
The programme offers a rich variety of visual arts, workshops, info sessions and
educational initiatives.

vooral: antwoorden.
Is het toeval dat ik cartoonist ben? Waarom werd de diagnose zo laat gesteld?
Wat deed dat met mij?
Hoe werken mijn hersenen? Wat zijn mijn zwakke punten? Waar liggen mijn
sterktes? Waarom loop ik soms vol? Waarom zorgen frieten voor stress? Waarom

jaar in Jette.
momenteel in Brussel.
Artists such as Luigi Brunetti, Johann Fischer, Jean Leclercq, Michael Golz,
Daniel Johnston, Jean-Jacques Liabeuf and Norbert Moutier flout conventions and
freely interpret the popular genre of comic strips in their own way. Existing
heroes appear in new fantasy worlds and new protagonists come to life.
This exhibition highlights work that has often been created outside the
established art circuits. You can find it in renowned museums such as Collection
de l’Art Brut in Lausanne, national and international art studios and private
collections. Word and image are brought together in an unconventional way. You
can immerse yourself in a ‘different world of comic strips’.

GLUON presents Checkin’ Each Other Out, an artistic project by Belgian artist
Jerry Galle. The show is the first exhibition in a series showcasing the results
of Gluon’s residency collaboration and focuses on Galle’s most recent work,
developed during a residency at Belgian research centre Flanders Make, hosted by
Gluon. On Saturday 20 April, we will open the expo with a keynote by Darian
Meacham (technology philosopher) and panel discussion with Jerry Galle and Marc
Engels (COO Flanders Make). Welcome!
Checkin’ Each Other Out is a project that questions our understanding of
`intelligence’. Through interaction between humans, robots and living organisms,
Galle aims to explore alternative forms of intelligence to suggest a broader
spectrum of `smart’. Artificial intelligence (AI) constitutes one of these
emerging intelligences. At the same time, there is also growing recognition of
non-human intelligences in other living organisms such as octopuses and
mycelium, which exhibit unique forms of ‘intelligence’. To encourage a shift in
perspective, Galle suggests to embrace new approaches that recognise the
complexity of intelligence in all its forms. According to Galle, it is crucial
to consider robots and artificial intelligence not merely as subordinate
entities, but as autonomous subjects. Should we emphasize fostering
collaboration and promoting a sense of shared agency and mutual commitment? It
is essential to ask questions that explore subjective experiences; such as “What
is it like to be you?” rather than sticking to the comparative, binary question
“Are you like us?”. The installation by Belgian artist Jerry Galle, features a
collaborative robot (cobot), glass sculptures and an AI-ecosystem, embodies the
uncertain interplay among all living organisms and technology.

Checkin’ Each Other Out est un projet artistique qui interroge notre

GLUON presenteert Checkin’ Each Other Out, een project van de Belgische

Checkin’ Each Other Out is een artistiek project dat ons
