Description
It is in the city of Liuyang, China, that most of the fireworks that make up crowd-pleasing displays around the world are produced.
Starting from their own pictures from Chinese pyrotechnic factories, together with choreographic sequences gleaned from YouTube, Amaury Vanderborght and Cathy Blisson create an open-air show that skirts the boundaries of film performance, musico-visual trip and firework display.
Playing around with the metronomic dimension of the images, the duo calls into question the mechanics behind the use of the device of entertainment as a weapon of mass distraction.
National commemorations, sports events, pop concerts and other mass ritual gatherings... What images and symbolism are drowned out for us amid the smokescreen of the spectacle of these explosions?

C’est dans la ville de Liuyang, en Chine, que sont produits l’essentiel des feux d’artifices tirés pour les foules du monde entier.
A partir d’images tournées par leurs soins dans les usines pyrotechniques chinoises, et de séquences chorégraphiques glanées sur youtube, Amaury Vanderborght et Cathy Blisson créent un spectacle de plein air, à la lisière de la performance filmique, du trip musical et visuel, et du feu d’artifice.
Se jouant de la dimension métronomique des images, le duo interroge les mécaniques qui sous-tendent l’utilisation de l’artifice de divertissement comme arme de diversion massive.
Commémorations nationales, démonstrations sportives, concerts pop, et autres grand-messes populaires... Quelles images et symboliques trouvons-nous noyées dans un écran de fumée face au spectacle de l’explosion ?

In de Chinese stad Liuyang wordt het meeste vuurwerk geproduceerd dat over de hele wereld voor het publiek wordt afgestoken.
Amaury Vanderborght en Cathy Blisson gebruiken beelden die ze zelf filmden in Chinese vuurwerkfabrieken en choreografische sequenties van YouTube om een openluchtvoorstelling te creëren op de grens van filmische performance, een muzikale en visuele trip en vuurwerk.
Door te spelen met de metronomische dimensie van de beelden, stelt het duo de mechanismen in vraag die aan de basis liggen van het gebruik van vuurwerk als massa-afleidingswapen.
