Opening Concerts: Kevin Richard Martin & KMRU - Astrid Sonne

Abrupt kicks off the 2024 edition with not one, but two opening concerts: Astrid Sonne and the duo KRM & KMRU. 
Kevin Richard Martin (The Bug) and Joseph Kamaru (KRMU) launched a new duo with the 2024 album Disconnent. The two heavyweights from the ambient and dub world leave a deep footprint in a muddy soundscape. The surprising spoken word of Kenyan Kamaru - hitherto known as a sound artist - pulls you out of the mud. DJ MAG described them as embodying ‘a sense of dawn after intense turmoil as it plunges into a menacing, industrial underworld.’ 
Danish composer and viola player Astrid Sonne uses both acoustic and electronic tools to construct a mood board blending extremes. On her latest album, Great Doubt, her sparse vocals find melodies, her violin stumbles upon a memory from the baroque era and the beats create suspense. She is not afraid of the dark in her compositions either: a detuned piano or restless electronics are no exception.

Abrupt donne le coup d'envoi de l'édition 2024 avec non pas un, mais deux concerts d'ouverture : Astrid Sonne et le duo KRM & KMRU. 
Kevin Richard Martin (The Bug) et Joseph Kamaru (KRMU) ont donné vie à un nouveau duo avec l'album Disconnect, sorti en 2024. Ces deux poids lourds de l'ambient et du dub marquent d’une profonde empreinte un paysage sonore boueux, dont nous désembourbe le spoken word surprenant du Kenyan Kamaru, connu jusqu'ici comme artiste sonore. DJ MAG a décrit leur collaboration comme l’incarnation d’un « sentiment d'aube après une intense agitation, plongeant dans un monde souterrain menaçant et industriel ». 
La compositrice et altiste danoise Astrid Sonne dessine un tableau d’ambiances conjuguant les extrêmes, à l’aide d’outils acoustiques et électroniques. Sur son dernier album, Great Doubt, sa voix dépouillée trouve des mélodies, son violon déniche un souvenir de l'ère baroque tandis que les rythmes élaborent un arc de tension. Elle ne craint pas non plus les zones d'ombre dans ses compositions, qui introduisent ici et là un piano désaccordé ou de l’électronique agitée.

Abrupt geeft het startschot voor editie 2024 met niet één, maar twee openingsconcerten: Astrid Sonne en het duo KRM & KMRU.  
Kevin Richard Martin (The Bug) en Joseph Kamaru (KRMU) beklonken met het album Disconnect uit 2024 een nieuw duo. De twee zwaargewichten uit de ambient- en dubwereld laten een diepe voetafdruk in een modderig klanklandschap. De verrassende spoken word van de Keniaanse Kamaru – tot nu toe bekend als geluidskunstenaar– trekt je uit het slijk. DJ MAG omschreef hen als de belichaming van “een gevoel van dageraad na intense onrust, terwijl het in een dreigende, industriële onderwereld duikt.” 
De Deense componist en altviolist Astrid Sonne zoekt met zowel akoestische als elektronische hulpmiddelen een moodboard om extremen te bundelen. Op haar jongste album Great Doubt vinden haar spaarzame vocals melodieën, haar viool een herinnering uit de barok en de beats een spanningsboog. Ook zij schuwt de schaduw niet in haar composities: een ontstemde piano of onrustige electronics zijn geen uitzondering.
